The present Thameslink platforms on the City Widened Lines are separated only by a newer wall from the site of the Underground platforms, which may still be seen on the west side from Underground trains travelling between King's Cross St. Pancras and Farringdon.
The Thameslink platforms are linked by stairs and a 600 metre tunnel to the deep level lines at King's Cross St. Pancras tube station.

SRA chairman Richard Bowker was said to have been heavily concerned with the problems that have plagued the planned upgrade to one of Britain's busiest rail services.
Thameslink trains currently run from Bedford north of London to Brighton on the south coast, but have been hugely overcrowded for more than a decade due to the large numbers of inconsiderate people wanting to use the service.
The original intent was for the work to have started in 1989 and to be finished by 2000 — a fact later revealed in the name for the project, Thameslink 2000.

There is construction underway to make the Thameslink train go right to Kings X/St Pancras and should be finished soon (part of the huge redevelopment of the two adjoining mainline stations prepping for the arrival of Eurostar trains from Paris into kings X in 2007.
Thameslink King's Cross is across Pentonville Road and a block east from King's Cross.
Ben's suggestion comes from the fact that Kings Cross Thameslink can be exceptionally unfriendly for people with luggage, and the pavement (sidewalk in some dialects) on the street between the Thameslink and mainline stations is very narrow and congested.
