To say that Thanatos is "alternative" does the artists a great disservice by lumping their music in with a lot of bad crap, but to say Thanatos is just Gothic would simply be a lie.
Thanatos is all across the board with this disc, there are many acoustic driven songs, vocal dependent songs, songs that seem to be on this recording for their humor value.
The only song I have a disliking for is "Thanatos," which is beginning to make me wonder if I just happen to have a personal problem with all of Projekt's self-titled songs (although the title track is one of the best).

THANATOS is without a doubt one of the oldest Death Metal bands from the Netherlands, if you just look at the fact that their first songs were already written in 1983!!!
Luckily, Stephan Gebédi decided last year to resurrect THANATOS in a new line-up and the result of this is the excellent output "Angelic Encounters", which just got released.
I went to school with most of the other THANATOS members of the first line-up, for example Marcel van Arnhem who became the drummer later on and Remco de Maaijer who became our guitarist.

Both, I guess..it's mainly a statement that we didn't change our style over the past years, but if the songs would not have been good anymore we wouldn't have done it of course...like you said, if we hadn't told anyone, noone would know these songs are so old.
Thanatos will be doing a lot of shows in February/ March and hopefully a European tour in May 2001 or so...
