Thanet is a local government district of Kent, England which was formed under the Local Government Act 1972, and came into being on 1 April of 1974.
The district was formed by the merger of Margate and Ramsgate municipal boroughs with Broadstairs and St Peter's urban district and part of Eastry Rural District.
The district is bordered by the City of Canterbury district to west, and the Dover district to the south.

- (1) The ordinary elections of all councillors of the district of Thanet shall be held simultaneously on the ordinary day of election of non-metropolitan district councillors in 2003[5] and every fourth year after 2003.

 Thanet Disability Forum Information
Thanet District Council has had the kerbs of many bus stops raised to enable not only people in wheelchairs to access the bus, but other passengers including elderly persons and those with children in pushchairs.
Thanet District Council has been made aware of this situation by Forum member Tim Finch and will be taking additional enforcement action against drivers who park on a bus stop clearway from Monday 11 June.
Thanet Disability Forum has written to local supermarkets providing disabled parking bays to ask what measures they are taking to ensure that these spaces are not being used by able bodied people.

 Objections to the Revised Thanet Local Plan
Until January 2003, Thanet District Council was committed to retaining Dreamland.
