Tharg the Mighty - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Mighty Tharg is a recurrent character in science fiction comic 2000 AD, one of only two characters to appear in nearly every issue of the comic (the other being Judge Dredd).
Tharg is an alien from the fictional planet "Quaxxann", supposedly in orbit around the real-life star Betelgeuse (although he works in the publisher's office in England), with green skin and a "rosette of Sirius" on his forehead.
Tharg writes the comic's introduction, answers letters, and doles out prizes to readers (for artwork or story suggestions) - winners could choose payment either in pounds sterling or in "galactic groats".

The editor of 2000 A.D. is supposed to be Tharg the Mighty[?], a green alien who calls his readers Earthlets in his letters page.
A running theme is Tharg's use of robots to draw and write the strips - these bore a marked physical resemblance to the supposed human writers and artists.
Tharg wrote and drew a whole issue himself, but when he ran it through the quality-control "Thrill-meter", the device melted down on extreme overload; the offending issue had to be taken away, by blindfolded security guards, to a lead-lined vault where there was no danger of anyone seeing it accidentally.

As we all know, the brains behind 2000 AD is its polystyrene-munching Betelgeusian editor, The Mighty Tharg.
Matt Smith is Tharg's latest - and arguably greatest - human incarnation.
After a relatively fallow period in the late 1990s, 2000 AD was bought by computer games company Rebellion, and now - under Matt Smith's leadership - is the strongest it has ever been: action-packed, inventive, though-provoking and - quite frequently - extremely witty.
