Amazon.ca: Music: Towering Inferno And Other Dis [Compilation] [Soundtrack]
With respect to "Towering Inferno" the film's Main and End titles are showcased as well as an eleven minute section of the score that leads to the finale in the film, which is, to my liking, one of the most thrilling that Williams had composed up to that time.
The Towering Inferno and Other Disaster Classics showcases the most outstanding material from popular disaster flicks from the '70s through the '90s, capturing a dozen tracks by respected composers such as Jerry Goldsmith, James Newton Howard, Alan Silvestri, and John WIlliams.
I originally purchased it on the proviso that it was the Original Soundtrack to "The Towering Inferno", which would have made it the first issue ever on Compact Disc.

aworks :: "new" american classical music: February 2004
The finale movement of Three Places in New England, The Housatonic at Stockbridge, is a poignant music picture of this river.
In January, I ended up listening most to three albums: Philip Glass: Early Keyboard Music (new recordings of 60s compositions), Terry Riley's Shri Camel from the 70s, and Return to Forever(featuring Chick Corea)'s Where Have I Known You Before from the 70s.
And Walter Simmons asserts that while Barber's individual works get recognition, overall, he is not well understood as an American composer due to the (misguided) focus on Charles Ives and John Cage.

The Martian Chronicles Soundtrack by Stanley Myers @ Cinemusic
Myers was not scoring the book, after all, but a late 70s television miniseries adaptation that, by most accounts, did not have the resources to really do justice to the work.
Myers wrote this score in the late 70s, an era where it was just barely too early to get hit by Williams revolution and too late to feel the influence of the golden age.
Myers gives up on trying to understand the disturbing scenes and only tells us what we already knew; that these scenes are strange and disturbing.

Berg was a significant player for Bodø/Glimt in the late 50s, early 60s and 70s, and F.C. Lyn Oslo Lyn in the 60s.
In the early 70s Berg played at ADO Den Haag FC Den Haag in the Netherlands for three seasons.

 What Grace - Graham Kendrick
It was probably meant to vary the album's pace midway through, and as it turns out, Graham has an equally thrilling finale called "Everybody Everywhere." Though the verses meander a bit, it contrasts nicely with the joyful chorus and thrilling percussion.
I've made all of these comparisons to other worship leaders, but it's far more likely that Matt, Martin, and others were influenced by Graham's work.
There are a few tracks on What Grace that are a little too simplistic and repetitive ("The Lord Is Present Here," "The Spirit of the Lord"), but others are among the most encouraging and effective worship songs I've heard in recent months.

Broken Social Scene, Broken Social Scene, Album Review
Broken Social Scene’s ability to build up emotion and maintain musical integrity is illuminated by way of the six minute plus finale; ‘It’s All Gonna Break’ that is of the 70s rock ilk early on before slowing down to take on a more contemplative bluesy feel.
As if 14 tracks of varied veracity weren’t enough, the kind Canadians provide their own January sale by throwing in a free seven track E.P. entitled ‘To Be Me And You’ that has a prominent spacey/art feel.
The pulsing and grinding ‘Baroque Social’ highlights the liberal nature of this progressive outfit.

 Bowfinger
Bowfinger's original music is by David Newman who, after a year off following the popular and Oscar-nominated Anastasia, returns to the scoring fray with a score which could be best described as being his take on the super cool Lalo Schifrin music of the 60s and 70s.
The only fully orchestral cue on the album is the last one, 'Finale/Fed Ex Delivers', in which Newman indulges in some massively overblown but gorgeously triumphant scoring to capture the moment of Bowfinger's "arrival" in the motion picture industry.
Bowfinger is certainly not your usual film score, and fans of Newman's pure orchestral works might not embrace this one with equally open arms.

The song 'Rage' from that album went on to win the Rock Song of the Year Award at the 4th Katha Music Awards, and Chickoy's compositions only affirmed what the group's fans had known along: it wasn't just a surplus of talent and musicianship; it was also about having a lot of heart and soul.

Perhaps the reason so many have a dim view of this finale is because Tim Finn left after Conflicting Emotions, and left Neil in charge, who with percussionist Noel Crombie and keyboard-god Eddie Rayner represented the only survivors of the band's late 70s lineup.
I like it a lot, but some with less flexible interpretations of what made Split Enz the band that it was don't seem to enjoy it as much.
The sound is geared much more toward synths, sequencers and drum machines than previous Enz fare, and Neil's somber songwriting conveys the feel of Crowded House much more than Split Enz.

She continues where I leave off, that is, she specializes in "the slasher flicks of the 70s and 80s." I especially enjoy her reviews of TV movies from the 1970s.
One of the reasons I started collecting B movies is because watching them reminded me of those wonderful boyhood late nights when Tony and I would try to keep each other awake so we wouldn't fall asleep before seeing the finale of films like It Came from Outer Space or Creature from the Black Lagoon.
It was amazing to see a movie set in modern times, in a real American setting, that explored the idea of vampirism.

The Trek Nation - 'Dead Zone' First Season Finale
Piller's other casting fantasy for next season involves his friends from That '70s Show.
Piller explained the concept as an analogy for the idea that when you're dating one person, you're dating every person they've ever dated -- which in the case of Johnny's touch-triggered visions means that you're literally in bed with all their past bedmates.
But Piller said that it was no joke to him; he thought it would break some records to do a high school reunion episode starring Hall's former castmates from John Hughes films.

Loggins & Messina split for two solo careers by the end of that year, their catalog completed by a greatest-hits album, Best of Friends, and a live record, Finale.
Messina agreed to produce Loggins' first album, but somewhere along the way it became a duo effort that was released in 1972 under the title Kenny Loggins with Jim Messina Sittin' In.
Kenny Loggins and Jim Messina were the most successful pop/rock duo of the first half of the '70s.

 Spamalot
Spamalot ends with a sing-along finale (a la Mamma Mia) with the entire cast exhorting the audience to get up on their feet and clap and sing, while buckets full of paper glitter drop from the ceiling all over everyone.
Spamalot is, as you undoubtedly know by now, the new musical by Eric Idle, "lovingly ripped off," as the playbill has it, from the '70s cult comedy classic Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
And that's really all you need to know about the musical comedy that feels, to me, like Broadway's biggest commercial juggernaut since The Lion King: this is an entertainment enterprise designed to make a lot of money.

David Bedford CDs - Brief Reviews and Recommendations - Part One
This is the last of the 70s prog-rock-like Bedford recordings, and the inclusion of the orchestral work as a finale signalled Bedford's subsequent focus on classical/orchestral composition (not that it wasn't his focus all along really...).
Bedford had been commissioned in 1976 to compose a piece of music to celebrate the renovation of 15th-century carved wooden angels in the nave of St.Nicholas Chapel, King's Lynn.
This was Bedford's first-ever commission purely for studio composition, having initially been planned to be composed as a children's opera based on Coleridge's poem of the same name.

SOUND CHECK / J Mascis rocks Fog City; / the Orb loses altitude; / no straight-edges and lots of kicks with the Mekons
Proving that he was as much a pioneer in the '80s rock scene as the Stooges were in the early '70s, the stringy-haired songwriting savant -- credited as the first to make metalesque guitar wankery fashionable in indie rock -- was in top form with his haphazard grandstand solos and ear-bleeding distortion.
For those who arrived early enough to catch the lo-fi rock openers, Mascis gave the duo a boost on drums for a couple of songs, and Watt also lent a hand on bass for their finale.
Starting off with "I'm Not Fine" from the recent J Mascis + The Fog CD More Light, Mascis, Watt and Berz ripped through standouts from the album, a record that recalls the Dinosaur Jr.
