After the province was ceded to Nadir Shah of Persia in 1739, Thatta has fallen into neglect.
Thatta's monuments include the Jama Mosque, built by Shah Jahan in 1647-49 and lined with glazed tiles.
Thatta is home to beautiful lake called Keenjhar.

The meeting decided that an international seminar on Thatta would be held in October this years.
The meeting constituted a committee headed by Thatta Heritage Society secretary Dr Mohammad Ali Manjhi to prepare a report for the establishment of a museum in Thatta.

THATTA, May 10: The Thatta Heritage Society has finalized the programme to hold a two-day international seminar on "Thatta: Past, Present and Future" in October.
The meeting decided to invite intellectuals and writers of international repute from all over the country and abroad to read out their papers highlighting archaeology, history, culture and heritage of Thatta.
He said that the seminar needed be held in a highly academic sense so that its purpose was achieved.

THATTA, Oct 14: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has appealed to President Gen Pervez Musharraf to announce a special agricultural package for water-strived districts of Thatta and Badin as was promised by him in his inauguration address to the Kissan Conference in Islamabad on June 10 this year.
They said recently announced agricultural package of the 50 per cent exemption to Sindh and 75 per cent to Balochistan in loan outstanding had already been extended but the facility was not enough for Thatta and Badin districts.
They appealed to the president that incentives and subsidies might be given in the districts to help stand firm the farmers on their footings and revitalize the agricultural sector.

Oilpalm plantation on 1000 acres at different four locations in the Coastal zone of Thatta district as mode farms along with Oilpalm extraction plant of 2 tonnes per hour capacity (Rs84.919 million).
Opel was of the views that coastal zone of Sindh has not yet been exploited and that Oilpalm plantation can bring a green revolution as it is the ‘Crop of the Future’ and can easily be substituted for heavily infested bananas and sugarcane, besides absorbing huge manpower resources.
