The Very Best Books : Wicked Pleasures
Wicked Pleasures is a collection of well-informed, sometimes irreverant essays that reflect upon the so-called seven deadly sins-- lust, anger, envy, gluttony, greed, pride, sloth-- and in that process explain the hold they have on the moral imagination of Western Christendom for a millennium.
In Wicked Pleasures, well-known philosopher, business ethicist, and admitted sinner Robert C. Solomon brings together a varied group of contributors for a new look at the old catalogue of sins.
Most of this book isn't terribly compelling: I think in their (admirable) quests to avoid religiosity, the authors' ideas tend to be pretty thin.

 WorldNetDaily: Potter books: Wicked witchcraft?
In the book of Deuteronomy, one of the Bible's books of "law" in Jewish and Christian traditions, witchcraft and sorcery are specifically condemned.
There are varying degrees of opposition to the Harry Potter books, from those who choose not to allow their own children to read the series to those who would have the book banned.
Voldemort is a non-physical "dark magic" being who inhabits the bodies of various characters in the books.

Amazon.co.uk: Books: Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West
In Wicked, we follow the life of Elphaba as we learn what shaped her personality, what it really means to be a witch and how things are not always as we think them to be or even as we want them to be.
In Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Gregory Maguire has written a novel that deals with the life of Elphaba, an emerald-green skinned young woman who was born into the family of a preacher and his wife in Munchkinland.
Wicked is about a land where animals talk and strive to be treated like first-class citizens, Munchkinlanders seek the comfort of middle-class stability and the Tin Man becomes a victim of domestic violence.

 Books Kingdom of the wicked
But good books have been written about literary fandom - Nicholson Baker on John Updike, Julian Barnes on Flaubert, Geoff Dyer on DH Lawrence - and Paul Theroux wrote entertainingly about ceasing to be a fan of VS Naipaul.
But in the event, the biographer fails to address his own question ("what lack or absence in me?"), and all failings are firmly attributed to the biographee, variously dismissed in the Prologue as lubricious, sentimental, callous, superficial, crapulous, arcane, laborious, sanctimonious and "essentially a fake".
That is the story behind this book, two decades in the making, the story of how Roger Lewis fell for, then grew to detest Anthony Burgess.

 Wicked
The story effectively chronicles the Tale of the Wicked Witch of the West supposadly from "her side of the story" which points at her as the haunted deformed evangelist's daughter who is growing up in the tyrannical reign of the Stalin-esque Wizard of Oz.
While Maguire liberally borrows from the books and the movie, the world of Oz that he creates is entirely his own.
Technically this book deserves three stars in the fact it is a very enjoyable book with a extremely imaginative world about it but I believe that it also is extremely hard to read for an Oz fan in the fact that the "homages" can often prove to be distracting rather than enlightening.

Books : Something Wicked This Way Comes
The Book Something Wicked this Way Comes, by Ray Bradbury, is a great novel that shows a person quite a lot of life lessons that will guide him through life.
This book is one of a kind, I say that because most of the times you do not read this types of novels.
This book takes place in a small town with a big storm on the way and no one in town cares except two kids.

 Wicked - Books
"Wicked" was my first book by Jill Barnett..I think it is safe to say it wont be my last.
So much so that I felt a bit cheated when it came to Tobin..I would have liked to have gotten to know him a bit better. My other quibble with this book has to do with the frequent separations...one was rather long..I REALLY dislike that in a romance...this wasnt a keeper for me, but definitely...
I loved the style in which this book is written.

She also has a strong streak of Agatha Christe or Dorothy Sayers in her, for not only does she write well, but she manages to introduce one murder and two attempted murders into her plot, which are only solved in the final chapter.
There are three or four miracles in the course of the story, as well as a murder and a couple of attempted ones; but the story is entirely convincing.

Yuh! Books burn wicked good, brother! MetaFilter
No book should ever be removed from view because it seems "immoral", and in fact kids at that age should be required by their schools to read things which challenge the comfortable sensibilities their parents have instilled in them, and present ideas which seem initially (or even permanently) problematic.
She thinks the book is immoral in that it objectifies women and that the book is inappropriate for ninth graders.
So long as her child has options and is not required to read the book, then all is ok. That she believes she is acting for the good of all parents and the community suggests that she is a busybody pain in the ass with a moral zeal we could well do without.

 overdue books
Those books, although I read them when I was only 14 or so, focused more on the relationships of the characters as children before moving on towards the consequences of those relationships as adults.
Not to say I didn’t like the book, and I will furnish a synopsis for you here, but the two books were dissimilar to say the least.
They meet throughout the book at different times in their respective lives and Clare learns to love Henry while she is a child, before she ever meets "contemporary" Henry.

 Wicked -- book review
I made this book my in-store staff recommendation twice when I was a bookseller, in hardcover and paperback, and my evident love for Wicked caused nearly half our store staff to read it for themselves.
Wicked's flavor is the gothic freakishness of Carson McCullers and Flannery O'Connor blended with liberal amounts of dark humor and socio-political satire a la Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Robbins, seasoned with honesty, sympathy and earnestness.
Two things we all agreed on: Wicked is one hell of a good book, and we will never look at Oz in the same way.

 Blogcritics.org: Wicked
Of course she wasn't really Wicked, that was basically a rumor spread by the Wizard since she was a freedom fighter, holding back the armies of Oz from taking over the land in which she lives.
Amusingly, the Wicked Witch of the East was born without arms; from the movie, we had no idea what she looked like except she had legs.
It covers a lot of ground: How the Wizard came to power, detailed overviews of the politics of Oz, and how the Wicked Witch of the West, named Elphaba, came to have green skin (her parents were evidently human).

"I allegedly have Asperger's myself," said Barrow, and "I found this book patronising, inaccurate and not entertaining." He was particularly irritated by what he saw as infantilisations of Christopher, a 15-year-old who, incredibly, does not seem to have sex on the brain.
In the Spectator Nicholas Barrow lost patience with Mark Haddon's The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, narrated by Christopher, who has Asperger's syndrome.

My advice to parents taking a younger child to a show like Wicked, or any musical for that matter, is to get the music ahead of time and listen to it with them.
