The Acacia Strain have taken this added musical presence and used it to create a bleak aural Armageddon filled with huge, crushing riffs, Bennett's bestial low-end roar and strange, dark samples.
It is a huge progression from The Acacia Strain's first album, And Life Is Very Long, released on Devilshead Records in 2003,and clearly puts them at the vanguard of the more experimental metal bands coming out of the Northeast.
It is, in fact, The Acacia Strain's ability to draw together such diverse sounds—death metal, noise, doom and hardcore—into a unified musicalforce that sets them among the elite.

The first paragraph of this band’s press piece includes a quote from vocalist Vincent Bennett; something to the effect of finding meaning in life, of having a personal opinion, and taking one’s own stance without becoming part of the herd.
The paragraph in question seems to crash head-on with The Acacia Strain’s music, which much like the brutal double-bass sound of about a thousand other bands of the ilk, resembles material that’s been mass manufactured in a Detroit plant.
Let me be clear; I am not in any way shape or form declaring The Dead Walk to be a sucky or deficient product, but truth be told, it is quite generic and at least musically struggles to stand out among at least 30 releases coming out this very same month.

Far fans of pure "metal" ala Pantera and the like and especially those who hate the hardcore/metalcore scene and its trademarks, The Acacia Strain is probably not the band for you.
Despite what some have said, The Acacia Strain is not a band that should be written off easily.
Ok, not bashing don or anything, but TECHNICALLY The Acacia Strain origonated from Springfield, Massachusetts, but it's close enough to CT. My friends brother has played in a band with every member of the current band except the third guitarist, but dang, these guys are really something in concert.

Like a cobra hidden inside a jack in the box, The Acacia Strain are packing a rather vicious surprise for those who are brave enough to put "The Dead Walk" into their player of choice.
Truly a coming of age record for the band, "The Dead Walk" is a severely brutal tech metal outing that bludgeons the listener into a bloody heap, gleefully utilizing both the hammer and the nail claw to ensure blood is shed.
Similar to what A Life Once Lost were able to achieve on "Hunter", The Acacia Strain have filtered the essence of Meshuggah through a screen of American metalcore; hacked its feet off to give it less mobility and proceed to mercilessly torment its wounded carcass into a volatile rage.

It’s tough to call a clear winner as both are scraping the bottom of the heavy barrel in their own respect but it’s a severe understatement to say this latest from The Acacia Strain is sure to rattle some teeth loose.
This might have been a problem if the songs were a bit longer and the music wasn’t so goddamn heavy but as it is this record clocks in at just over half an hour, barely enough time to register the ton of bricks this band drops on your head with this record.

The Acacia Strain are a new metal band I had decided to investigate after reading some good reviews, and after repeated spins I can certainly recommend them to any fan of death metal or grind.
One of the first things you notice about The Acacia Strain is the sheer ferocity of their attack; they pummel you severely right off the bat with the neo-Meshuggah-like polyrhythms of "Sarin: The End" and don't let up throughout the entire disc.
