The Acid House Movie: The Acid House DVD is available from Bestprices.com
A trio of stories adapted by Irvine Welsh (TRAINSPOTTING) from his collection of stories of the same name, THE ACID HOUSE is an absurd and brutal look at life through the eyes of one of the most prominent Scottish authors of the 1990s.
The final section of the film is the title story, which stars Ewen Bremner as Coco, a raver who ingests a heroic amount of LSD one night, is struck by lightning, and promptly switches bodies with a newborn infant.
The film begins with "The Granton Star Cause," which stars Stephen McCole as Boab, a listless loser who meets god in a bar and is promptly changed into a fly for his lack of ambition.

And in "The Acid House," a druggie low-life (Bremner) experiences a Freaky Friday-style body switch with the infant son of a pair of self-involved yuppies.
The title is a play on the term "acid house," a form of sinister dance music that emerged in Chicago in the mid-'80s and helped fuel the formative years of England's rave culture.
After "The Granton Star Cause" was screened separately at the Edinburgh Film Festival, the completed film was shown at Cannes in 1998.

 The Acid House (1999)
However, as taglines are often wont to mislead, The Acid House is not about heroin, and the film itself plays like a diluted version of its fast-paced predecessor.
According to McGuigan, he hadn't seen Trainspotting before filming, so The Acid House shouldn't look like its predecessor — though it does.
While disjointed, House's stories are filled with animal fear and rage, populated with figures ripe for psychology textbooks were they not prone to fantastic whims of the supernatural.

One departure, which I actually liked, was that unlike the Coco Bryce in Welsh's short story "The Acid House," the character is portrayed as more of a protagonist in the screen adaptation.
Welsh's work is always a study in intensity, but without a breather between laps, The Acid House becomes an endurance test.
Visually, The Acid House pops in all the right places, investing the slums of Edinburgh with manic color and rock & roll pizazz.

At the same time, house was breaking into the pop charts; it fragmented into a number of subgenres, including hip-house, ambient house, and most significantly, acid house (a subgenre of house with the instantly recognizable squelch of Roland's TB-303 bass-line generator).
His trademarked throwback acid house became a hot sound by the end of the decade, and the growing house mecca of Scotland became an early convert, with a raft of singles on Glasgow Underground.
Instantly hailed by the dance music press as the work of a new breed of house innovators, the single was followed by "Da Funk," the band's first true hit (the record sold 30,000 copies worldwide and saw thorough rinsings by everyone from Kris Needs to the Chemical Brothers).

Fluke: Puppy - PopMatters Music Review
Fluke emerged during the British acid house boom of the early 1990s and have been unfairly lumped in with the "electronica" scene ever since, a scene that they were never really part of.
When it became very clear that electronica was not the Next Big Thing, Fluke were relegated to cult status, with a cache of loyal fans holding out for a follow-up.
Nonetheless, they had success in the British charts; and, ironically, it was the American hype surrounding electronica that led to a contract with Astralwerks and their biggest seller in 1997's Risotto.

Johnny also makes a point of hanging out and spying on the household of Rhodha's eccentric, irascible sister, Cara (Patricia Neal), who shares her house with her son Porgie (Ron Applegate) and his trashy wife Yolanda (Gale Garnett) (who Carla snaps at constantly, spitting out such acid-bon-bons as, "Don't call me Mother, you lazy fart!").

The film centres around fully blown schizophrenic "Julien" played by Ewen Bremner (TRAINSPOTTING, THE ACID HOUSE) and features amongst others (Korine's real-life girlfriend) Chloe Sevigny as Julien's sister, and the near-legendary director Werner Herzog as his father.
However, JULIEN DONKEY-BOY is a film that does not remotely try to look good in the conventional sense so it's difficult to really grade the quality of the picture because it's so strange and purposely cheap and dirty throughout that you tend to become accustomed to its look within a few minutes.
JULIEN DONKEY-BOY is a relatively unconventional film that would make most people wonder what the hell they'd wasted their money on.

The development of the techno sound in Detroit and house music in Chicago in the early to late 1980s, and the later UK-based acid house movement of the late 1980s and early 1990s all fuelled the development and acceptance of electronic music into the mainstream and to introduce electronic dance music to nightclubs.

Unfortunately, most of these films were an inadequate match for Bremner's talents: The Life of Stuff was hailed as 1997's Great British Film Disaster, while both Mojo (1997) and The Acid House (1998) earned some favorable reviews but were largely shunned by audiences.
Bremner, who had originated the role in Edinburgh's Traverse Theatre production of Irvine Welsh's novel, managed to stand out in a film saturated with stand-out performances, earning particular screen immortality for a hilarious scene centering on his character's speed-fueled job interview.
Scottish actor Ewen Bremner first attracted international attention with his portrayal of the perpetually unfortunate druggie Spud in Danny Boyle's cult classic Trainspotting (1996).

 House on Haunted Hill (1959)
Castle just doesn't stop at theatrical gimmickry - the whole film has been constructed as a sort of cinematic equivalent of a fairground haunted house show with heads popping up out of boxes, ghosts out of closets, hanging bodies and acid pools.
The plot involves a group being offered $10,000 each if they can survive a night in the titular house and Castle even uses star Vincent Price as a kind of carnival barker at the start of the film, having him turn to the screen to offer the same challenge directly to the audience.
The film was given a worthwhile big-budget remake - House on Haunted Hill (1999).
