Commentary on the Whole Bible Volume II (Joshua to Esther) | Christian Classics Ethereal Library
Here is, I. David's bold adventure into Saul's camp in the night, accompanied only by his kinsman Abishai, the son of Zeruiah.

This is the second of a series of writeups forming an introduction to the literary genre of science fiction.
Tales of adventure in exotic lands have been around as long as the concept of fiction itself, and the ancient tales are full of descriptions of strange races and lost tribes.
The youth of the genre does, unfortunately, leave something of a stain on the works of the period, and many of the stories formerly considered classics of SF are rife with misogyny and jingoism.

Our narrator is a pedant, and he felt obliged to introduce within his meager 250 pages a galaxy of references to earlier adventures, to all of Holmes traits and methods, and to some of the fascinating characters and animals that our author evidently feels were snubbed because they were mentioned only once in the original.
In addition, some of his sentences are disjointed in a profoundly jarring way, as if they have been lifted straight from the canon and scrambled slightly to fit the story here.
