Alice Cooper's balance is missed by many of the sloppy, hair-trigger music reviewers who really don't want to take his song craft seriously.
Cooper was obviously working on a new story-line to fit comfortably alongside his classic songs within his lucrative stage show.
Cooper shifts back into serial killer mode for "Chop, Chop, Chop" and "Gail." But what's different here is that Cooper brings existential philosophy to the killer thing, giving us a view from multiple angles: "The bugs serve time in her skeletal jail: I wonder how the bugs remember Gail.

Alice just loves to perform live and, with the "Alice Cooper Rock'n'Roll Carnival," he showed us just that at the House of Blues here in Hollywood on Thursday, August 20th, 1998 - the last of three sold-out shows.
Alice also performed some lesser known songs like his "From The Inside" album (which he wrote in an asylum while recovering from booze addiction - no Betty Ford in the late 70s), as well as "Hello Hooray," "Poison," "Steven" and a very obscure tune called "Halo Of Flies" (Alice's take on the James Bond genre).

This is surprising because the Alice Cooper group of the early 70's was world reknowned for their completely over the top live spectacle.
Alice Cooper himself has said that he isn't proud of this live album, and that A Fistful Of Alice (released in 1997) was a conscious attempt to finally put out a live album of excellent renditions of his classics.
I've heard lots of live material from Alice Cooper, and seen many live videos (which, by the way, is truly the best way to enjoy the spectacle), but his singing on this album is among the best I've heard from him.

Alice Cooper's first album Pretties For You was released in 1969 and, though it touched the US charts for one week at #193, was ultimately met with critical and commercial failure.
Cooper's stage antics would influence later bands like KISS, Blue Öyster Cult, and W.A.S.P. Muscle of Love, released at the end of 1973, was to be the last studio album from the classic line-up, and marked Alice Cooper's last UK Top 20 single of the 1970s with "Teenage Lament 74".
Alice was finally clean and sober by the time "DaDa" and "The Nightmare" home video (of his 1975 TV Special) were released in the fall of that year, however both releases performed under expectation.

Unfortunately, it won't be the original Cooper Band...but, that's ok. It is the original Alice, which, in spite of his current religio/politico leanings, might still put on a kick ass show.
Alice pretty much followed the setlist posted, and it was great hearing the old songs live again, before it's time to cash my check.
Alice's daughter is in the show as a dancer...a lovely young lady.

But this is not all show there are also some classic songs to be admired, the arrival of “Billion Dollar Babies” early in the show set the standard, and this was followed with a mix of old and new to keep the huge age-range of fans more than happy.
Alice sounded great (and very, very, very, loud) with a young band to back him, and a huge set all that was needed was a raucous crowd, and a very full BIC were more than happy to supply that.

Certainly the shows the recordings are taken from had plenty more that could have been included, including more material from the recently released 'Lace And Whiskey' album.
Alice was very sick -- emotionally and physically --at the time (from all the booze) and did not want to do another two shows to make this album (the only time he remembers not wanting to go on stage).
However, he did the shows, but the album is not reflective of the energy of an Alice Cooper show, in his opinion, and could have been 10 times better.

This show at the Ventura Theatre was not only the best Alice show I have every seen (and I've seen a half dozen or more) it was probably the best rock show I have ever seen period.

Alice, who was contractually obligated to deliver the studio a live album, has publicly expressed his displeasure with this release.
Alice's vocals also don't really seem to be 'into the show' as much as they should be, especially on 'Go To Hell'.
Overall, if your a big Alice Cooper fan, and want to hear an early live show with some good classics and obscure material, this is decent to get.
