The Animatrix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Animatrix is a major part of the Matrix series, a collection of nine animated short films set in that fictional universe.
Development of the Animatrix project began when the film series' writers and directors, the Wachowski brothers, were in Japan promoting the first Matrix film.
The Animatrix was conceived and overseen by the Wachowski brothers but they only wrote four of the segments themselves and did not direct any of them; most of the project was created by notable figures from the world of Japanese animation.

The Animatrix is, decidedly, a mixed bag of epic proportions.
Intended to be the ‘most vital’ of the nine Animatrix shorts in regards to The Matrix Reloaded, the story follows the heroic and tragic fate of the crew of the Osiris as they race to warn Zion of animpending attack by the machines.
In all, The Animatrix is a landmark event for anime fans, one that should be remembered for a long time, not for its relative quality, but for what the release means to anime fandom.

The Matrix (at least the first one) is possibly the best live action interpretation of Japanese animation ever seen, and from the looks of the screen shots this series would follow the next logical step by producing a Japanese style animated series set in the world of The Matrix.
Out of all The Animatrix shorts this one had the best soundtrack that built up the tension, and brought out the horror of the sentinels in the same way as the original movie did.
Plus out of all the Animatrix shorts this one had some of the best characters, due to the fact that they show emotion but their emotion is not exaggerated.
