 "DIGGERS" v "TURKS" Match report - 27 Ap - www.ezboard.com
On Saturday 27th April, in the ANZAC Day Bintangs Football Challenge, the Diggers lead by Brigadier Quin were pitted against the Turks lead by Sergeant Major Batten, on the Battlefield of Cibubur.
It was sure to be a battle royale as the two combatants faced off, with both knowing that only one team would be able to hoist the victory pennant at the end of the clash.
The Turks seized the initiative from the opening skirmish and had their battle lines better prepared than the Diggers who appeared to be in disarray due to the Brigadier clearly having consumed too much port at the pre-battle dinner the night before.

Ron Barassi snr played 58 games for the Demons and featured in a premiership in 1940 before he was killed at Tobruk in 1942.

 Round Five vs Saint Kilda
ANZAC Day tradition was extended from the Collingwood-Essendon clash of the racists at the MCG to include this clash at Subiaco in the evening.
St Kilda fought back towards the end of the quarter, and this was pretty much the pattern of the game, with Fremantle starting each quarter well, and then St Kilda fighting back to prevent them extending their lead to any insurmountable margin.
Freo were the better team on the night, but were never able to completely shut St Kilda out of the game.
