That's the way these military minds work-the armageddon factor." But the story condemns war period; even the lamely romantic patriotic drama in the beginning is a satire on propaganda movies.
"Armageddon Factor" is mostly enjoyable, and the text commentary alone makes it a step up from the VHS purchase.
It's somewhat fitting that THE ARMAGEDDON FACTOR features a time loop in the later episodes, as viewing this serial gave me a similar feeling of being trapped in an impenetrable sequence of technobabble.

The Armageddon Factor is worthy of its six episodes, for the most part, if only to cram in some good ideas and smart twists.
Overall, The Armaggedon Factor is a pretty poor story, that is livened up by some nice humour in episode 2 and the inclusion of one of the all-time great comedy characters in Who, Drax.
So when The Armageddon Factor arives it's like having to suddenly sit a test for which we haven't revised, and the end result is the same; we end up sitting there slightly baffled for two hours.

 Outpost Gallifrey: Reviews
For the finale of a generally strong season with a story arc that runs from beginning to end, it is crucial to produce a satisfying denouncement; instead, we are forced to endure 'The Armageddon Factor', a story that remains my least favourite story of Tom Baker's entire run.
It is also disappointing that this story is so dire since it is the last broadcast six-part Doctor Who story, given that 'Shada' would have an unfortunate rendezvous with fate (I don't count 'The Two Doctors', since it is structured and broadcast as three fifty minutes episodes).
Which brings us to the climax of both 'The Armageddon Factor' and also the Key to Time storyline.

Since, as far as we know, the lower classes of Gallifrey cannot regenerate their bodies, and do not possess the "Time Lord gift" which allows one to understand alien languages (The Masque of Mandragora), it seems likely that The Doctor underwent the processes which enable both of these as part of his graduation ceremonies.

Target Practice #058: Doctor Who and the Armageddon Factor
Baker and Martin never got good innings on Doctor Who, despite some very good script concepts, and sadly Armageddon is one of those that sounds a lot better in its original form than what ended up on TV.
It’s really quite good for the first two or three episodes, and then it starts rolling downhill, to the point where it gets to the bottom of the hill and never really recovers (I mean, really; what clever producer lets the entire season be for nought?).
