The Band Album Reviews   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
The Band drew their musical inspiration from various musical sources (rockabilly, ragtime, r&b, blues, country, folk; you name it), and wove them into a seamless rock sound that was completely American (despite The Band being comprised of four Canadians) and uniquely their own.
If any Band album can be said to be genuinely exciting it would have to be this live classic, which runs through 28 songs (on the much expanded and highly recommended Deluxe Edition) over two discs and provides an excellent overview of the group’s songbook to date.
They give it their all, though, and this is still an essential album because of the many guests who were invited for this concert, which sent The Band off in grand style (it was their last concert with all the original band members).

  Encyclopedia: Europe (band)
Europe is a Swedish hard rock band originally assembled as a progressive rock group; they later added keyboards to their sound in order to soften it, in hopes of gaining radio airplay.
The first incarnation of the band was named Force and came together on the year of 1979, in Upplands Väsby, Stockholm, and was integrated by vocalist and keyboardist Joey Tempest, guitarist John Norum, bassist Peter Olsson and drummer Tony Reno.
The band sent several demos to record companies, but were told that in order to be published they had to cut their hair and sing in Swedish.

 Crowbar - Heavy Duty
The band’s debut album, Bad Manors and their live performances on a cross Canada tour had won legions of fans for the band and many were anxiously waiting for the band’s next album.
On this album, the band moved away from their high energy blues styled songs and tried their hand unsuccessfully at psychedelic music in the style of the Grateful Dead.
Heavy Duty was the band’s last album for Daffodil Records with a move to Epic for the next album but this was the beginning of the end for Crowbar and after one more album the band split up.

Credit is given to the person who decided to stagger the tracklisting; the album might not be chronological, but this is a good thing, as the weaker moments of their beginning stages blend in nicely with the maturity and experience of their final recordings.
This album could quite easily, and indeed, should be the soundtrack to a movie, after all, it is already the soundtrack to the lives of The Fairways.
The band was aware of its own mortality, too: the title track was the b-side to their debut single from August 1998, and on it Kenji realizes "I'm better alone / I guess I'm happy alone" before quietly exiting to a peaceful piano coda.

The Band - The Band (Brown Album)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-02)
The Band, the group's second album, was a more deliberate and even more accomplished effort, partially because the players had become a more cohesive unit and partially because guitarist Robbie Robertson had taken over the songwriting, writing or co-writing all 12 songs.
The Band’s organic textures of sawing fiddles, tinkling mandolins and parping horns were also a far cry from the vogue for studio trickery.
While this should have meant the ambience was relaxed, the late delivery of the mixing desk meant the album had to be recorded quickly, helped along by a supply of artificial stimulants to keep the musicians going through the lengthy sessions.

The Rolling Stone Album Guide: The Band
Astonishing instrumental prowess makes the Band one of the strongest musical forces in rock & roll history -- but what elevates the group to greatness is the power and clarity of its vision.
Exercises in elegiac Americana that work as metaphors for very modern states of mind, Robbie Robertson's songs fuse folklore and history into a mythology of moonlit cornfields and small-town dreaming, of fading natural beauty and the immediate anxiety of individual souls.
Music From Big Pink was the group's tour de force debut: Robertson's "The Weight" and Dylan's "I Shall Be Released" encapsulated the Band's strengths -- the lean grace of Robertson's guitar, the understated drive of Levon Helm's drumming, and, especially, the solo and ensemble brilliance of the group's three singers.
