Band of Mercy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The original Band of Mercy was a militant youth group of the RSPCA in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century.
In the 1960s the name was adopted by a group of animal rights activists who started a campaign of illegal direct action in support of animal rights.
The name 'The Band of Mercy' was eventually dropped and the organization was renamed the Animal Liberation Front.

The Religious Order of the Sisters of Mercy (RSM) is an order of Roman Catholic women founded by Catherine McAuley in Dublin, Ireland in 1831.

No Compromise: The Militant, Direct Action Newspaper of Animal Liberationists & Their Supporters   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
The initial actions of the Band of Mercy were very simple and were basically designed around the idea of disabling the hunt vehicles in order to slow down or even stop the hunt from carrying out its murderous activities.
However, the Band of Mercy was very clear from the beginning that it was not merely carrying out acts of wanton vandalism against those whom they opposed but instead their actions were designed around the idea of 'active compassion'.
To this aim the Band would always leave a message to the hunters explaining why the Band had carried out their actions, the logic of animal liberation and to show that there was nothing personal against any one individual person.

House of Mercy - The Web site
Founded in the spring of 1996, House of Mercy offers a discriminating blend of high church and low, of tradition and innovation, sincere worship and healthy skepticism.
Although the roots of the House of Mercy are in the free church tradition--we are affiliated with the American Baptist Churches in the USA--we are committed to the diverse and rich theology and worship of the Christian church worldwide and historical.
While we draw different elements of worship from many Christian ritual traditions--Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican, Orthodox, and the free churches--at House of Mercy we seek to create a place where questions are encouraged, where you will not be handed a checklist of orthodoxy, where ambiguity is not the enemy of faith but its partner.

Mercy was the band that once featured Messiah Marcolin, later of Candlemass fame, and reportedly the two albums here that he appeared on were of the doom mold.
However, the only Mercy album reviewed here is their debut EP, Swedish Metal, a rather low-budget NWOBHM-sounding affair, and as Messiah wasn't around then, it's of limited appeal to Messiah or doom fans.
Though the band hasn't been around for years, a new recording has emerged, essentially a solo release by founder Andrija Veljaca, with the title Underground, reportedly in the doom/sludge mold.
