The Barber of Seville is an opera in two acts by Gioacchino Antonio Rossini with a libretto in Italian by Cesare Sterbini, based on the comedy of the same name by Pierre Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais.
The original title of the opera was Almaviva or the Futile Precaution because of the thirty-year popularity of another opera entitled The Barber of Seville and Rossini=s desire not to offend its composer, Giovanni Paisiello, who was 75 at the time and had written over 100 operas.
After this aria, Figaro and Rosina engage in a long and coy dialogue in which the barber informs her of the love of Lindoro and of the need for a note from her to keep the wheels turning; the young woman has already written it, and gives it to the barber for delivery.
