On Wednesdays, Batman and his sidekick Robin would confront one of their archenemies and would end the episode in horrible danger, only to save themselves at the beginning of the next episode on Thursdays.
This time she came to save the show from falling ratings and not to protect Batman and Robin against accusations of a homoerotic relationship, as was the case for her creation by the comic book writers in the mid-1950s.
Interestingly, as in the two Batman movies released in the 1990s, this new animated series erased Robin from the scene, possibly responding to criticisms of the homoerotic subtext between the two heroes.

During a decade which saw the birth of the the hippie counter-culture movement and the rise of radical artists such as Andy Warhol, Batman was a pop art living cartoon which reflected the vibrancy and creativity of the world around it.

Campy, colorful adaptation of the dark and gritty comic book has a fairly lumpy Batman (played by Adam West) foiling daffy and innocuous criminals, via detective work and slow fist-fights which were punctuated by large comic-style POW!s, BAFF!s and ZONK!s.
With its patently absurd writing (particularly Batman's array of gadgets, which seemed large enough to cater for any given situation -- think Bat Shark-Repellent) and shonky production values, this was more like a televised pantomime than anything.
It is also partly responsible for the general public's dim view of comic book writing and comics in general today, although to be fair the comics of the time could be almost as bad.
