Topic: The Battle (TNG episode)

Booby Trap (TNG episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Booby Trap is a third season episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.
The Enterprise-D is caught in a trap when the crew investigate an old battle cruiser that has been drifting for over a thousand years.
During a centuries old battle between the Menthars and Promellians, the Menthars had used the assimilators to ensnare their enemy in the booby trap.

Beta VI is a Federation colony world mentioned in the TOS episode "The Squire of Gothos" that was the destination of the USS Enterprise before the Trelane entity acosted the command crew for his entertainment.
Furthermore, a key battle of the Earth-Romulan War was the Battle of Cheron, mentioned in the TNG episode The Defector.
In the TOS episode "The Naked Time", Psi 2000 was in the midst of a planetary break up which caused strange gravity fluctuations that warped space and time and caused the crew of the Enterprise to go mad.

Darmok (TNG episode) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The title of the episode comes from one of the metaphors Dathon uses: "Darmok and Jalad at Tanagra".
The premise of this episode is occasionally compared favorably to the motion picture Enemy Mine, which may have inspired it.
A closer parallel in science fiction is the Ascian language in Gene Wolfe's The Book of the New Sun, who once they reach adulthood speak only in quotes from their equivalent of Mao's Little Red Book.

A couple of gripes of my own about this episode; when Beverly is asked as to the condition of the injured Klingon, she replies that his injuries are "very critical".
This is a little surprising, considering that in an earlier episode ('The Schizoid Man') they were able to drop an Away Team planetside (admittedly on another planet) and afterwards to zoom off, at warp speed mark you, while merrily chatting to the Away Team via the communicators.

Bok presents it as a gift "to the hero of Maxia." The battle of Maxia, apparently, is the Ferengi name for Picard's fighting off an attack from a then- unidentified ship as his last act before abandoning the Stargazer.
Picard's personal log from the Stargazer seems to indicate that he fired on the Ferengi vessel without provocation, and Riker must immediately mention it to Starfleet Command, though he believes (correctly, as Data finds later) it's a forgery.

This episode serves to establish the Ferengi as legitimate rivals to the Federation.
I rank this episode very highly, (4 1/2 stars is more accurate),as it corrects many of the errors made in "The Last Outpost." It also paves the way for Ferengi characters to appear in later episodes of TNG as well as the subsequent series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

This episode provides a simple but effective deep space problem to be solved by the crew, but the most interesting part of this episode involves the sub-plot with Geordi La Forge, who has been having a real bad streak of luck with the ladies.
On the one hand this episode is another chapter in the interactions of the ship's crew with the wonderful creations of the holodeck (e.g., "11001001," Episode 16), but it also sets up a very interesting episode down the road when the REAL Leah Brahms the following season in "Galaxy's Child" (Episode 90).

Star Trek The Next Generation (TNG) really did an excellent job of continuing on after the final episodes of the original Star Trek, combining the great scripts of the first Star Trek with the advances in filmaking since that time and a new terrific cast!!
Of all the original series and next generation episodes PLUS all the movies, only the Star Trek The Next Generation tv show episodes "Family" and "Liaisons" contain no scenes on the bridge.
The scripts for the episodes, "The Child" and "Devil's Due" were originally were originally written for the proposed "Star Trek: Phase II" tv show which was later terminated.
