 | | The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, in conjunction with the U.S. Geological Survey, maintains a network of 17 monitoring stations where stream flow, nutrients, and suspended sediments are measured monthly during “base-flow” conditions and during eight storm events per year to calibrate a model that is used to predict concentrations and loads. |
 | | Stations are monitored during storms because the majority of nutrients and sediment enters the Bay during high flow events. |
 | | The 13 remaining stations are part of the enhanced non-tidal network, which are monitored to help the state determine trends in concentrations and loads released from smaller order streams across the state. |
