The Beach Boys were an enormously successful pop group of the 1960s, whose popularity has lasted into the twenty-first century.
Originally formed in 1961 by brothers Carl, Dennis and Brian Wilson with cousin Mike Love and friend Al Jardine, the group's signature sound was close vocal harmony, strongly influenced by The Four Freshmen.
As of 2003, the group touring under the Beach Boys name consisted of Mike Love and Bruce Johnston and supporting performers.

The Beach Boys are a pop music group formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961 who are widely considered one of the most influential bands in rock and pop music history.
But some of the other Beach Boys—especially Love—found the new music too difficult and too far removed from their established style; another serious concern was that the new music was simply not feasible for live performance by the current Beach Boys lineup.
In 1975, the Beach Boys staged a highly successful joint concert tour with Chicago, with each group performing some of the other's songs, including their previous year's collaboration on Chicago's hit "Wishing You Were Here".

The great 70s Beach Boys album that never was - Dennis might have been the least vocally talented band member, but he was far from the least musically talented, and he was the only one to score a legitimate commercial success as a solo artist.

The group's name became the Beach Boys (it was previously something else, but it was changed to cash in on the phenomenon), and thus was born the world's biggest surf band (although they only really wrote a handful of songs about it, and only one member, Dennis, actually surfed in his entire life).
