Annual publication - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In the case of comic books, an annual is considered a separate series for purposes of numbering and collectibility; a particular periodical's Annual will thus have its own numbering series, or alternately be referred to by the year of its publication (such as The Amazing Spider-Man '99 Annual).
Annuals also on occasion featured the finale of a multi-issue storyline running in the monthly series; conversely, many annuals would showcase stand-alone stories that did not fit in with the then-current thrust of the monthly series' storyline.
When the industry began to recover from the "bust", annuals began re-appearing on occasion, but by no means as regularly as before the "bust", when numbered series of annuals had reached the teens or twenties, indicating over a decade of regular publication.

The Beano Annual - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Beano Annual is the current name of the book that has been published every year since 1939, to tie in with the children's comic The Beano.
From 1942 to 1949 the annuals were called The Magic-Beano Book, referring to a short-lived comic that ceased publication due to World War II's paper rationing.
This name continued, the year changing for each different annual, until the release of the 2003 book in 2002, when its current name was adopted, though the following year still appears at the end.

The Belles of St. Lemons - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Belles of St. Lemons was a comic strip in the UK comic The Beano, first appearing in issue 1495, dated 13 March 1971.
The title was both a play on the nursery rhyme "Oranges and Lemons" and Ronald Searle's Belles of St.
The weekly strip ended around 1972, although further episodes continued to appear in The Beano Annuals.

Beano annual sale and identification page
The Beano comics and annuals along with the Dandy comics and annuals formed one of sthe cornerstone of the DC Thomson publication empire in the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
The comics and annuals have been in continuous publication since the 1930s and have produced some of the most popular characters in British comics.
An annual for 2006 will therefore have a 2005 copyright date on the inside and a 2006 year date on the covers.

house on the hill toy museum | annuals
Many recent popular titles such as Beano, Dandy and Rupert are fetching higher prices than some of their predecessors because (a) there are more people alive today who remember these Annuals in their Christmas stockings and want to re-live their childhood memories and (b) many have the income to collect their own childhood nostalgia.
Although today's Annuals are still gladly received at Christmas by thousands of children, their popularity is waning, although the incorporation of digital sound effects into the pages of some of the very modern Annuals may create a new wave of popularity.
In any event, as with every other type of juvenilia, today's Annuals are a far cry from the very early Victorian editions and reflect the technological and social advances of the past one and a half centuries.
