 The Beatles: Anthology 1
Now that the Beatles are being embraced by young music fans again, Anthology 1 may also help bridge a generation gap in many homes.
Ballads like "Love Me Do," "She Loves You," "Till There Was You," "All My Loving," "And I Love Her," "From Me to You," "Eight Days a Week" and others address the range of warm fuzzies associated with falling in love, giving one's heart away, and the hurt resulting from lost or unrequited love.
Anthology 1 celebrates the innocence of the Fab Four's early years.

With a group such as the Beatles, it is impossible to assemble a greatest hits album or compilation CD that pleases everyone.
However, for the most part, the selections on this cd are not the original mono single versions, they are the same sloppy stereo outtakes that EMI has been foisting on us for the last 30 years.
This album is wholly unnecessary for a big Beatles fan with all of their albums.

You think that "The End" is going to be the perfect ending to the last Beatles recording, and then "Her Majesty" comes in after 15 seconds or so, almost showing us that the Beatles legacy will never die.
, west babylon, NY it did not end up on the album completely as a mistake, it was tacked on at the end because the ppl at abbey road were told never to delete the outtakes, and paul heard it there and liked it, so they left it.
I think "Her Majesty" was made the last song of Abbey Road to almost mock the importance of the group's "last song".

Lewisohn has also documented the Beatles' other activities in similarly comprehensive books, along with contributing sleeve notes to Beatles and John Lennon CD releases.

The new four-CD Guided by Voices box set, Suitcase: Failed Experiments and Trashed Aircraft (Fading Captain Series/Rockathon/recordhead), is more than just a mammoth collection of demos, outtakes, and aborted ideas culled from the bowels of a certain long-rumored piece of luggage belonging to songwriter Robert Pollard.
The internal voice guiding him was his desire to make the kind of classic records that gave people the same rush he got when, as a kid, he'd dash home with the latest Beatles album tucked under his arm.
I wanted it to sound like you had this Beatles bootleg, like all those White Album outtakes that you found on some fourth-generation cassette.

 DVD Verdict Review - Backbeat
In many ways, the focus on Sutcliffe and his subsequent romantic involvement with Astrid Kirchherr is the film's greatest strength, as it allows Softley and his cast to concentrate on telling an interesting story instead of wasting their energies on trying to replicate something as inimitable as the Beatles in their youth.
Since Kirchherr rarely gives interviews about her involvement with Sutcliffe and the Beatles, this is a very valuable and informative inclusion on this disc.
But perhaps the best feature included on this disc is the audio interview with Astrid Kirchherr, illustrated with clips from the film as well her own photography of Sutcliffe and the Beatles.

The first volume of the most eagerly anticipated career retrospective in recording history, the Beatles Anthology 1 is packed with incredible rarities, outtakes, and different versions.
A demo recorded at home by John in 1977, "Free As A Bird" was given to Paul by Yoko Ono for the remaining Beatles to finish, both lyricly and musicly.
Features songs recorded live on tour as well as demos recorded before they were even called 'Beatles'.

 The Moody Blues
The Moodies never actually released the gig, played at the Royal Albert Hall on December 12th, 1969, themselves, and it was only released eight years later as 'archive' stuff without their immediate consent with five 'bonus' previously unreleased studio outtakes from the Children sessions.
Complaining about that 'this is not the Moody Blues' is certainly the equal to complaining about the Beatles of Please Please Me fame that 'this is not the Beatles'.
The album broke new ground back in 1967 by combining the Moodies' happy (or not so happy) pop tunes with some full-scaled orchestral arrangements that were probably designed in order to put the Beatles to shame - which they didn't.

 Ed Driscoll.com: June 2003 Archives
It's scheduled to be released this fall--hopefully with lots of outtakes and bonus materials, to help make the disintegration of the Beatles less painful to watch.
Between the Beatles' Anthology, Standing in the Shadows of Motown, the new Led Zeppelin DVD, and now this, 2003 has been a great year for rock DVDs.
The anti-review typically happened when either (a) the writer was handed an album so outside his ken that he had no idea what to say about it and blocked, or (b) hated the album so much that he decided to simply make stuff up in a pique of condescending anger mixed with wild improvisation.

BootlegZone : The Beatles -- It's Not Too Bad
This album is probably the only place we'll ever have all the Demos and outtakes of SFF.
Listening to John's demos can be hard at times because of the sound quality but the sound of the outtakes is the best I've ever heard, plus the tracks have all been slowed down to their original speed.
Even though Takes 1-7 and Takes 25-26 are on this album, it would have been great if John Barrett or anyone else found the unreleased Takes 8-24 because those Takes are the missing pieces of the SFF puzzle.

While it may be unfair to compare Nirvana's b-sides and outtakes to the best material in the James Brown catalogue, I can't help but be underwhelmed by any box set that doesn't have the words "Star Time" printed on the cover.
By any measure of greatness, James Brown's musical legacy towers above all others', with the possible exceptions of Elvis, the Beatles, the Stones, and Bob Dylan.
James brought on board the funkiest, tightest, and most relentless bands available (especially in the 1969-71 period) to create this incredible music that has been a huge influence on all subsequent funk, not to mention hip-hop and large chunks of the rock world.

The 2001 CD reissue on Sundazed adds nine bonus tracks, including four 1966-1967 outtakes, four songs from 1967-1968 singles, and a couple of commercials they recorded on the side.
There's also a rather wacky cover of the Beatles' "I'm Happy Just to Dance With You," complete with the cheesy twanging sitar that decorated several of the Cyrkle's songs.
Neon was pretty much more of the same pop/rock with folk-rock accents that the Cyrkle had delivered on their debut, Red Rubber Ball.

It would have been interesting for the writer/director to shed some insight on just how much of the celebrity repartee was ad lib.

In addition to the album proper, the collection includes post-album recordings and a second CD,...And How It Got There, of rehearsal outtakes that's of interest to anyone who cares about the recording process or just wants to hear the songs that didn't make the final cut.
