The early figures for the Belize District are shocking compared to 2002, a year which the TIU says only 20 deaths were totaled of the 1,540 traffic accidents, which include from minor city accidents to highway collisions.
The figures represent the Belize District and do not include other districts where frequent accidents also occur such as the northern and western districts.
Since January 1st 2003, 14 people have died as a result of traffic accidents in the Belize District, according to the Traffic Investigation Unit (TIU) of the Police Department.
