UK food retailer Iceland, the food group that at one time aimed to corner 40% of the world's organic vegetable supplies, now says its foray into organic food was ill-fated and cost it more than 20m [pounds sterling] (32.1m [euro]).
Iceland group sales were up, rising from 852.3m [pounds sterling] to 2.45bn [pounds sterling], but this was mostly down to the acquisition of UK wholesale firm Booker.
Iceland, the frozen food retail chain, after which the group was named, accounts for only around a third of its revenues.
