 Gallagher: The Big Chill
In Lawrence Kasdan's The Big Chill (1983), the interior shotsof the South Carolina home of Sarah and Harold, the pseudo matriarch andpatriarch of the film, where much of the action and interaction of the charactersis set, d ominates the imagery of the film and contributes to the theme ofoutside versus inside.
At the end of the film, all of the characters gather within the houseto discuss Alex once and for all after they learn of a reason that led inpart to his suicide.
The setting then, is used to underscorethe theme of outside versus inside and the setting and the objects withinthe house become an entity and presence themselves in the film.

 The Johnny Bacardi Show
The film was shot on location in England, among those familiar rows of boxy little houses on hillsides and in rundown districts and clubs, and the atmosphere is 100% authentic.
It was a film that had no major stars, either from the decade in which it was filmed or any subsequent (unless you are a big Tom Conti fan), a small budget, and came and went (upon its initial release) with very little (if any) fanfare on either side of the Big Pond.
Then I saw the the soundtrack LP, noted that it claimed to be a "soundtrack" of the film of the same name, and assumed that it had been a cheapjack star vehicle that got little release and had quickly faded into obscurity.

 The Big Sleep
Vivian Sternwood makes appearances in scenes in the film, from which she was absent in the novel: in Joe Brody's flat, in Realito with Mona Mars, in the house when Marlowe returns with Carmen (in her bedroom resplendant in a silk robe).
Her significance is much enhanced by the film in comparison to the novel, to the extent of the suggestion of the permanence of the relationship between her and Marlowe.
Just before filming began, instead of the scene, Howard Hawks and Jules Furthman wrote a new resolution with Bacall and 'Bogie' in Geiger's house after a final shoot-out with Mars, deciding on Carmen to be institutionalised, and on Vivian's romantic fate to be in Marlowe's hands.

 Hooray for Hollywood!
Cawelti, in fact, explains that these two films are “the two most remembered and perhaps the most memorable versions of a narrative formula that has been replicated in hundreds of novels, films, and television programs” (227).
Notably, the song is used as both nondiegetic sound--accompanying Terry Lennox on his trip to see Marlowe early in the film, for example--and as diegetic sound, emanating (humorously) from the Mexican funeral procession, or from the eclectic group of people playing music at Roger Wade’s house on the beach.
The Big Sleep opens just as the book does, with Marlowe, portrayed by Humphrey Bogart, being summoned to the house of General Sternwood who wishes to employ his services.

Art house film - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Because of their limited release, art house films are usually relegated to specialist art house cinemas, and may be difficult to find for those who do not live in big metropolitan areas such as Los Angeles, which tend to be more culturally diverse.
Art house films, also called art films are motion pictures that were not intended by their producers to appeal to a mass audience, but rather seek a niche amongst specialty theatres usually found in large urban areas.
Art films, foreign films, and documentaries are usually art house films but from time to time they catch the appeal of the mainstream viewing audiences.

 Big Momma's House movie review
By far, the latter is the cleverest aspect of the film, and results in hilarity when "Big Momma" kicks a bullying security guard's butt in karate and beats bullying school kids at basketball.
And of course, there are also occasions where "Big Momma" has to perform tasks that clearly isn't Malcolm's forte, like delivering a baby or singing in the church choir.
This framework allows Lawrence to engage in a variety of gags (including, of course those related to flatulence and weight), taking advantage of the fact that no one knows that he is really a male impersonating an extremely heavy female.

 Big Momma's House
Big Momma's House was one of 2000's biggest hits, and three years later, I'm still trying to figure out why, what about the flick made it so special.
Aside from an interesting baby delivery (Big Momma is also a certified midwife, putting Malcolm in yet another sticky situation) and a profane church service, there's hardly a single ounce of original humor or even a good joke to be found in the film's entire structure.
The problem is that "Big Momma" is out of town herself, leaving Malcolm to don a dress, a wig, and fat suit to unconvincingly pose as the matriarch.

Amazon.com: The Big Doll House: Roger Corman Classics (1971): DVD
Women-in-prison films were nothing new in 1971, but The Big Doll House had it all--sex, violence, nudity, a sadistic guard, and a sexually frustrated warden--and served it up with an abundance of cheapjack energy and tongue-in-cheek humor.
The Big Doll House, like some of Hill's other movies, was shot in the Philippines, with the cast and crew making up plot elements and dialogue in near-guerrilla filmmaking.
Considering how big a fan he is of these types of movies, it's no wonder that Quentin Tarentino based an entire film around the beautiful Grier, who, I might add, looks absolutely amazing today.

This underated film noir classic has three great stars of the genre: Richard Widmark, famous for his psychotic laugh, Ida Lupino, who was always perfect as the sultry femme fatale, and Cornel Wilde, who despite being very talented never became the big star that he should've been.
This classic was made during the "golden years" of film noir, the late 40's, and it has stood the test of time.
Widmark's character is well-off and owns the road house that his old pal Cornel Wilde manages for him.

dOc DVD Review: Road House (1989)
Road House, the 1989 film about a not so big, bad bouncer who saves a town (and, more importantly, a rowdy bar!) from corruption, wasn't exactly well-respected upon release.
I'm lowering the grade on Road House because I don't think that the filmmakers intended to produce what amounts to a spot-on parody of an overblown beefcake flick.
