  Black Cauldron walkthrough - solution
Black Cauldron FAQ/Walkthrough [for DOS/WINDOWS] Version 1.1.0 Copyright 2000 Andrew Schultz(schultza@earthlink.net) _The Black Cauldron_ is copyright Sierra on Line(game), Disney(movie), and Lloyd Alexander(book) too.
In the book[2], the Cauldron has actually been taken AWAY from Arawn Death-Lord(who was the Horned King's mentor) by the three witches(they had struck a bargain earlier) and Dallben has called for its destruction.
The Cauldron is traded for a sword and taken by a gwythaint.

The Black Cauldron: Gold Classic Collection (1985)
Boasting a then-record budget of about $25 million, TBC was supposed to herald the start of a new "Golden Age" of Disney animation as the studio finally went past the cutesie efforts like The Fox and the Hound and The Aristocats with more sophisticated material.
TBC has earned a reputation as a bad film over the last 15 years, but I think these opinions of its stench are overly harsh.
Its pairing with TBC seems a bit odd, since the latter lacks much humor and doesn't feel matched well with a slapstick Donald Duck piece, but since Disney haven't released many of their classic shorts on DVD, its presence is appreciated nonetheless.

Filmtracks: The Black Cauldron (Elmer Bernstein)
Largely ignored commercially, the score for The Black Cauldron has hidden in the depths of the out-of-print and bootleg market, and while the music Bernstein wrote isn't earth-shattering (or, in other words, worth a desperate search for just this title), it is a likable and interesting symphonic score from start to end.
Its role in The Black Cauldron is central, for Bernstein was nowhere as advanced as, say, Jerry Goldsmith, in 1985 when it came to using synthesizers to enhance the fantasy element.
The downfall of The Black Cauldron for Bernstein, however, would be the lack of transparency in his themes and development, something that really needs to be made clear in a children's film.

Since The Black Cauldron is one of the bastard stepchildren of Disney animation, so unfortunately, they did not take very good care of this film.
The audio for The Black Cauldron quite frankly stunned me. While the tracks sound a bit dated, the new 5.1 Dolby Digital mix was great.

I have no doubt in my mind that Disney's studios regret doing "The Black Cauldron," one of their biggest commercial flops ever, but actually, the movie is a visual, enriched, and traditional triumph.
The Black Cauldron is the source of power in all their world.
True, "The Black Cauldron" is not among "Bambi" or "Beauty And The Beast," but in a list containing the great Disney films, this one places seventh, behind "Bambi," "Beauty And The Beast," "Sleeping Beauty," "The Hunchback Of Notre Dame," "Mulan," and "Pinocchio." I imagine you can call that praise.

Nigel Hawthorne : Films : Review : The Black Cauldron
``The Black Cauldron'' is a quest movie, telling the story of Taran's progress toward manhood, his journey through the kingdom, and his race against the Horned King for possession of the cauldron.
What surprised me, as I sat through ``The Black Cauldron,'' was how quickly the story did absorb me. Instead of thinking deep thoughts about the past and future of Disney animation, I was caught up in the movie, amused by some of the characters, and sort of excited by the sky-splitting conclusion.
By the end of ``The Black Cauldron'' I was remembering, with something of a shock of nostalgia, the strength and utter storytelling conviction of the early Disney animators.

Those of you with small children may want to note that this scene involves skeletons and is particularly dark and spooky (and probably the source of the film's PG rating).

 Review: The Black Cauldron
The Black Cauldron represented a significant departure from previous Disney features: it was presented in 70 mm, utilized computer animation to enhance the hand-drawn images, did not feature any songs, and was rated PG (for potentially frightening images).
The Black Cauldron is not populated with a gallery of interesting characters.
Frankly, though, even judging by today's high standards, the artwork is impressive, especially during the late sequences when the Black Cauldron spews its magical contents skyward and an army of corpses begins its march.

The graphics and sound are similar to the early King's Quest series released in the late 80's (and are equally primitive), which isn't surprising since both King's Quest and The Black Cauldron were designed by Roberta Williams of Sierra.

The Chronicles of Prydain - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Having garnered both a Newbery Medal (for The High King) and a Newbery Honor (for The Black Cauldron), the chronicles are recognized as a valuable contribution to the canon of classic children's literature.
For many years since their publication The Chronicles of Prydain have held their own in sales and readership and may be comparable to other famous children's fantasy series such as The Chronicles of Narnia.
The Black Cauldron, an animated film loosely based on the first two books, was released by the Walt Disney Company in 1985, though the plot is dissimilar enough to be considered a poor adaptation of the books.
