The Black Cauldron (game) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The game was based on the Disney movie, The Black Cauldron, which was itself based on the Chronicles of Prydain books by Lloyd Alexander.
However, in order to make the game more accessible to children, the text parser was removed in favor of an interface in which the function keys were used to perform various actions.
The game actually featured plot branches and multiple endings depending on many variables, such as whether Hen Wen the pig was saved, how the cauldron was destroyed and what reward was chosen afterwards.

Olympic Games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, the Olympic Games were seen as a "pagan" festival threatening Christian hegemony, and in 393 the emperor Theodosius outlawed the Olympics, ending a thousand year period of Olympic Games.
The so-called Intercalated Games (because of their "off-year" status) were held in 1906 in Athens, as the first of an alternating series of Athens-held Olympics.
In 1956 the Games were boycotted by the Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland, because of the withdrawal of the Hungarian Uprising by the Warsaw Pact - furthermore the Melbourne Games were boycotted by Cambodia, Egypt, Iraq and the Lebanon, because of the Suez Crisis.

Black Cauldron was released for the IIgs 1987, in a joint venture between Sierra and Disney.
The Horned King wishes to kidnap Hen Wen, and use the pig's powers to obtain the whereabouts of the Black Cauldron, which can provide him with the means to assemble an army of the undead.
The game is still fun to play and I'm quite pleased to have a copy in the archive as I was beginning to give up on continuing the search for the title, as I hadn't found any proof a IIgs version actually existed.

Since The Black Cauldron is one of the bastard stepchildren of Disney animation, so unfortunately, they did not take very good care of this film.

The Black Cauldron offers a fresh story, although not as fresh or moody as The Rescuers (1977), the atmosphere is close to Sleeping Beauty (1959), very dark but with lighter moments which were missing in other gloomy films like The Great Mouse Detective.
THE BLACK CAULDRON was clearly rated PG for a reason--not anything in the way of graphic violence or profanity, but there are lots of scenes which do come across as nightmarish, especially those involving the Horned King.
THE BLACK CAULDRON was originally mixed for six-track Dolby Surround, and the music by Elmer Bernstein comes across as brilliant and the dialogue separation is impeccable.

The interface is quite a bit simpler than most of the Sierra games from this era, and it is rather short if compared to a Space Quest or King's Quest game.
The game plot is somewhat disjointed and sometimes it is difficult to determine what the next objective is.
I picked this game up the other day, and got it working on DOSBox but even after all these years the game was still somewhat challenging.

Adventure games have always had low replay value to begin with, since once you solve all the puzzles and follow the story to its conclusion, there usually isn't anything gained by going back through it again.
The Thief games are much more like adventures than shooters or RPGs, though they do require a bit more gaming coordination than a lot of adventure-game types would like, and the majority of "character interaction" consists of a blunt object to the back of the head after eavesdropping on them.
Unlike adventure games of old, however, all these switches are pretty much alike and you don't have to lose sleep figuring out the exact words to type in to get them to work.

The Black Cauldron is a fun adventure for kids based on a quite obscure Disney's movie of the same name, which was in turn based on the popular "Chronicles of Prydain" series of children's books by Lloyd Alexander.
The feature that sets The Black Cauldron apart from other Sierra adventure games at the time is the lack of parser.
The game overall is well-designed, with appropriate pacing and logical puzzles that won't frustrate kids.
