JS Online: Bloodhound Gang short on talent, long on raunch
The Bloodhound Gang is best described as a live gross-out comedy set to derivative punk-pop and white-boy knuckleheaded rap, a sort-of NC-17 Weird Al Yankovic for Generation Y - and the mostly teen, capacity crowd at The Rave Friday night got their money's worth.
Talent-wise, the Gang is as good as any of the dozens of other bands crowding the commercially lucrative area between punk and pop - including the evening's generic trio of opening acts, Nerf Herder, A and Rx Bandits.
The title of the Gang's latest album, which has been hovering in Billboard's Top 20 for three months, tells you everything you need to know about the band.

The Bloodhound Gang are a comedic American rapcore synth-pop band, mixing an alternative/punk sound with hip-hop.

Another song from the new album is part of a campaign by the Bloodhound Gang to change the Pennsylvania state anthem into their appropriately titled "Pennsylvania."

 The Bloodhound Gang Reviews
Unlike Bloodhound Gang's 1995 debut, Use Your Fingers, which was essentially a sample-heavy rap album with rock tendencies, Beer Coaster features a new backing band for more of a live rock sound, with muscle-bound funk touches and rapping (think 311 or Cake).
On their debut album, Use Your Fingers, Bloodhound Gang make it clear which group they expect to be confused with: "No, I'm not the guy from the Beastie Boys!" yells Jimmy Pop (or is it his partner Daddy Long Legs?).
Full of TV namedropping (Emmanuel Lewis), shopping lists (No-Doz, Rolos), and gleeful juxtapositions (Jack Kerouac and Gilbert Gottfried in the same line), Pop's rhymes are dense enough to be topical as well: various songs cover feminine hygiene, suicide as population control, acting gay as a way to meet women, and so on.
