It was during three performances of ritual magick at midday on April 9th, 10th and 11th of that year, that Aiwass, a self-proclaimed messenger of the gods, appeared to Crowley and dictated The Book Of The Law directly to him.
Crowley recognised Aiwass as his Holy Guardian Angel and The Book Of The Law itself as a Bible for the New Age: the aeon of Horus, the child god of ancient Egypt, also synonymous with the unfolding Age of Aquarius.
The book's three chapters delight, mystify and terrify as the Goddess Nuit, the mysterious Hadit and the chilling Ra Hoor Khuit (war god of Egypt) issue their proclamation through Aiwass.

Crowley believes that the Law of Thelema resolves all spiritual quandaries, harmonizes science and religion, and supersedes all historical dispensations, establishing a new cultural epoch for humanity, which he calls the New Aeon of Horus, the Crowned and Conquering Child.
The Book of the Law is both a radical postmodernist critique and an endorsement of religion, which claims to go beyond all previous historical dispensations and reveal to humanity nothing less than the basis of a new spiritual epoch, the New Aeon of Horus, the Crowned and Conquering Child.

The problem is to determine the exact nature of The Book of the Law of the Lord, the book which was translated by James Strang from the brass plates of Laban.
The Book of the Law of the Lord, which was translated by James Strang, apparently consists of portions of the Law of Moses which are missing from our version of Leviticus and Deuteronomy.
Second, there is evidence that The Decalogue chapter in The Book of the Law of the Lord is not the same thing as the Ten Commandments which were given from heaven at Sinai.

The Law of Thelema also teaches that all religions are variations of one fundamental underlying spiritual truth, which become fragmented into different religious traditions as a result of variations of place, time, and degree of realization and mutual isolation and hostility as, with the passage of time, religions become increasingly diversified and exclusive.

Yet the curses that the book contained (verse 24) suggests Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28; and the ensuing stress on the central sanctuary (2Kings 23:8-9) implies Deuteronomy 12, etc. 'The Book' thus was at least the Book of Deuteronomy (that is, according to this source).
Some, however, believe the Book of the Law to refer to the entire Law or Pentateuch—that is, the five books of Moses.
Oddly enough, Joshua is said to have written about the Israelites' recommitment to God late in his life "in the Book of the Law of God" (Joshua 24:26), well after Moses had written the Pentateuch.
