THE BOURNE IDENTITY - COLLECTOR'S EDITION (WIDESCREEN) DVD
The Bourne Identity is a composition of gestures stripped of romance and presented in their barest forms.
The Bourne Identity offers almost nothing in the way of conventional solutions to its puzzles--it isn't that the plot is particularly Byzantine, it's that the film steadfastly resists providing the resolutions that jaded audiences have come to expect.
The Bourne Identity is brilliant filmmaking, a testament to the editor's craft (Saar Klein) scored by a wise low-key techno-orchestration by composer John Powell that speaks to Liman's knack for using music to augment a scene (while leaving it unobscured) rather than narrate it.

 The Bourne Identity
Thinking more about it, "The Bourne Identity's" success hinged on excitement-an excitement generated by three factors: a sense of momentum that kept me engaged, unique action set pieces that did not overstay their welcome, and filmmakers who seemed just as interested in making this adventure fun as they did in making it believable.
Let's face it, most action films are fairly similar: There is a mission that needs to be accomplished, the film's hero is the only one that can do it, he is able to shoot most of the bad guys in elaborate ways and none of the bad guys can seem to hit him.
This film does not take itself as seriously as they claim, but is fun from the first frame to the last, employing a paper thin story to hold it all together.

The Bourne Identity: Cinephiles Movie Review
The Bourne Identity, directed by Doug Liman (Swingers) and based on the novel by Robert Ludlum, focuses on a young, male protagonist who struggles to recover from amnesia, yet who finds instead strong incentives not to, after gathering enough evidence that point to his turbulent past and an extremely risky profession.
The Bourne Identity tries to create suspense by assigning its character the difficult mission of piecing together evidence that may reveal his true identity and bring back his memory, while simultaneously establishing the convenience of being assumed dead by his enemies.
However, when dangerous enemies discover Jason Bourne is alive and launch their searches, the plot degenerates into a series of persecution scenes that sacrifice further character development in favor of thrill-seeking action.

The Bourne Identity was directed by Doug Liman, an unusually gifted indie punk blessed with a screenplay by Tony Gilroy that touched on a lot of the same existential hallmarks as Blade Runner.
Stripped of embellishment, The Bourne Identity is almost a textbook on movement and gesture, as purely cinematic an action film as any to come down the pike since the heyday of the '70s British gangster genre.

The Bourne Identity: (John Powell) When Robert Ludlum was sitting and writing his internationally famed three thriller novels involving the talented spy Jason Bourne, it is doubtful that he had this music by John Powell in mind.
The first of the trilogy of stories, The Bourne Identity was a bestseller in its initial release in 1980 and the 2002 interpretation of the story by director Doug Liman on the big screen follows the same nervous, frenetic, and action-packed feeling of determination.

Its scenes and sensibility are all more than familiar, but it exudes a kind of nostalgic spy-movie charm and, at the same time, is so fresh and free of the usual thriller nonsense that it all seems to be happening for the first time.
Entertaining, handsome and gripping, The Bourne Identity is something of an anomaly among big-budget summer blockbusters: a thriller with some brains and feeling behind it, more attuned to story and character than to spectacle.
The Bourne Identity keeps you in a state of nervous excitation from the opening shot to the fade-out and has a thread of deadpan humor that vibrates alongside the main action like a third rail quivering next to a hurtling train.

In the new thriller The Bourne Identity, Matt Damon is all by himself, the fate of the movie resting almost entirely on his shoulders.
Loosely based on the 1980 novel by the late Robert Ludlum, the film opens with Damon's character being rescued from the Mediterranean Sea by a European fishing boat.
On the run, Damon's Bourne comes to realize that he bears certain unnatural "skills," such as an advanced knowledge of martial arts, the keen ability to find an exit route from any building and being able to speak in multiple languages.

SPLICEDwire | "The Bourne Identity" review (2002) Doug Liman, Matt Damon, Franka Potente
Adapted from the slick and savvy novel by the late Robert Ludlum (whose two sequels are waiting in the wings), the picture stars Matt Damon in a sharply focused performance as a mysterious man found floating in the Mediterranean Sea with two bullet holes in his back and a wicked case of amnesia.
He never resorts to MTV-style editing, and uses the film's score of energetic electronica (by often-experimental composer John Powell who scored "Face/Off," "Antz" and "Shrek") as the background track it should be.
Like "Ronin" and the first "Mission: Impossible" film, "The Bourne Identity" is a complex espionage-fueled action flick that respects the viewer enough to let you connect some of the dots yourself.

Slant Magazine - Film Review: The Bourne Identity
Though relatively colorless, the film's CIA agents still talk and walk like CIA agents (Brian Cox, as a mysterious government official, all but steals the show with a literal wink at the audience).
Marie (Potente) is Bonnie to Jason's Clyde and while her presence, like the film itself, feels superfluous at best, she still gives a mean haircut (set to John Powell's techno-symphonic score).
Bourne Identity may not work as a full-fledged spy thriller or as an identity crisis pot boiler, but thanks to Liman's near effortless direction, the genre gumbo is like butter.

The Bourne Identity - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Bourne Identity is a 1980 spy fiction thriller by Robert Ludlum about an amnesiac who must discover who he is and why several different groups, including an assassin and the CIA, are trying to kill him.
In Zürich, the protagonist learns that his name is Jason Bourne; and, while attempting to retrace his steps on his previous visit to the city, attracts the attention of several people who either fear him, warn him of danger, or try to kill him (but all unhelpfully assume that he already knows why).
The 1988 miniseries is reasonably true to the plot of the novel, but the film was changed to exclude the subplot about assassin "Carlos" and, equally or more significantly, the fact of Bourne's innocence — it is maintained that he actually was an assassin (though of CIA employ).

The score and music invigorates the movie and adds to the excitement and tension as Bourne tries to discover exactly who and what he is. The fight scenes are good and Bourne's martial arts skills are very believable with the way the scenes are filmed.
"The Bourne Identity" is an exciting, pulse-pounding adventure that is directed with great pinache by Doug Liman, who also did "Swingers" and the fast-paced action/comedy "Go." This movie also moves at a frenetic, relentless pace and I can honestly say there's never a dull moment.
