Promoters of The Boy From Oz are expected to announce the leading female roles in the musical, with rock legend Chrissie Amphlett already rumoured as a strong contender to reprise the role of Judy Garland, Allen's mother-in-law.
Of course, Amphlett was part of the original cast in The Boy From Oz, when the show had its world premiere in Australia in 1998, back when Todd McKenney was wowing audiences in the same role.

The Boy From Oz: review on TheaterMania.com
And he's not persuasive as singer/songwriter/man-about-town Peter Allen, whom he's portraying and who was sometimes known at "The Boy From Oz" or "The Man From Oz" ("Oz" being a shortened version of Australia).
The smaller group consists of people who know who Allen was and still is, considering the quality of many of the songs he left behind; the larger one is made up of Jackman fans who know little or nothing about Allen and are likely to accept on good faith whatever they're told about him.
They're being told plenty, as promised by the opening number, "The Lives of Me." The trouble with the often claptrap Boy From Oz is that some of those lives don't jibe with the truth about Allen.

It was entirely appropriate that, on October 16, 2003, The Boy from Oz became the first Australian musical to reach Broadway.
That show opened to disastrous reviews, but the notices for The Boy from Oz were more favorable, particularly with regard to the star, Hugh Jackman, the Australian film actor who had also previously performed musicals in Australia and London.
So, the original Broadway cast album of The Boy from Oz is essentially a Peter Allen greatest-hits collection, as sung by Jackman, with appearances by Isabel Keating as Garland, and Stephanie J. Block as Minnelli.

The Boy From Oz Captures Broadway
The show stops and starts in little bursts of energy in Act I. Heavy on exposition, it dashes through the events shaping Allen's life opening with "The Lives of Me", seemingly written for this show.
A rather weak ballad, "All I Wanted Was The Dream", is sung by Isabel Keating whose resemblance to Garland caused an audible intake of breath from the audience.
Act I includes two homage's to these show biz divas: "She Loves the Hear the Music" and "Quite Please, There's a Lady on the Stage" and concludes when Allen returns home after splitting with Liza, indicating he's "Not the Boy Next Door" thus propelling us into the career oriented second act.
