  The Buggles - Virgin Radio
Horn said he chose "The Buggles" for the band's name because "It was the most disgusting name I could think of at that time."
Buggles (the official version of the band name, used on their albums, singles, and publicity material, omits the prefix "The") were a New Wave band formed in 1977 consisting of Trevor Horn, born 1949 in Durham (bass guitar, guitar, percussion, and vocals), Geoff Downes, born 1952 in Stockport, Cheshire (percussion and keyboards) and Bruce Woolley.

The Buggles - Pandora Internet Radio
As the answer to the trivia question "What was the first act ever played on MTV?," the Buggles assured their place in pop music history.
Their first single, "Video Killed the Radio Star," hit number one in the U.K. in late 1979; when MTV went on the air in 1981, the prophetically-titled record's video was the first ever broadcast on the fledgling cable network.
Although the Buggles enjoyed three more British hits -- "The Plastic Age," "Clean Clean" and "Elstree" -- both Horn and Downes were more interested in production than performing; in 1980, they helmed Yes'; Drama, and later joined the group as replacements for Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson.

Given that the novelty status of The Buggles will forever be secured by "Video Killed the Radio Star," that may come as a hard pill to digest.
While that lends a certain charm to a song like "Elstree," it does suck the power out of "Kid Dynamo," which really would have been more convincing if the vocal had more muscle.
PS: I also recommend Bruce Wooley and The Camera Club's "English Garden" CD in addition to "Living in The Plastic Age." He was a founding member of the Buggles and cowrote some of their best songs, but broke off before they hit.

Billboard.com - Discography - The Buggles - Adventures in Modern Recording
It wasn't surprising that the Buggles' second release, Adventures in Modern Recording, didn't meet the expectations that 1980's internationally successful The Age of Plastic set.
Both Horn and Downes had been working on several outside projects, including Yes'; 1980 release Drama, which severely limited their time, and for the most part, Adventures was a Trevor Horn solo project; Geoff Downes only appears on three tracks.
Meanwhile, "Lenny" is a shot of adrenaline that could have fit nicely on Drama as well; actually, a good portion of that album is as much a Buggles recording as anything you'll find here, so to consider Adventures the second Buggles release would be unfair.

MTV - Facts, Information, and Encyclopedia Reference article
MTV started in New York City but was available in most of the United States by the mid-1980s with the nationwide expansion of cable.
Appropriately, the first music video shown on MTV was "Video Killed the Radio Star" by The Buggles (with similar tongue-in-cheek humor, the first video shown on MTV Europe was "Money for Nothing," by Dire Straits, which starts with repetition of the line "I want my MTV," voiced by Sting).
The early format of the network was modeled after Top 40 radio.
