Michael Netzer's THE NEW COMIC BOOK OF LIFE - Where We Stand (via CobWeb/3.1 planetlab2.cs.virginia.edu)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-05)
omic book creators have long sensed the direction which world events are leading our civilization and have turned these premonitions into their call to action in many of the comics books they produce.
She is the least among the big three, but knows that she is the first mother, the birther of life, the only superhero who can birth the children that will one day grow to be the league of superheroes, such as she belongs to.
Comic book publishers will soon make a stand to flesh out these themes as they begin to discover the tremendous commercial value this will add to their enterprise.

 Free Comic Book Day 2006
Many early comic book conventions, or cons, were originally conceived as the comic book counterpart to science fiction fandom conventions.
Interest in original comic art has increased tremendously in the past few years because more current art is available now that companies return originals to the artists, who then either sell the work themselves at cons, or through agents and dealers.
Comic book and toy shows are often dominated by toys and related products.

 Comic-Book Superstore: Alan Moore
This book has a strong mystical or spiritual theme, with the female lead cast in a pluralistic role: she is both Sophie Bangs, student, and Promethea, imagination personified.
The book allows for Sophie and Promethea to be intellectual, rather than just wiping the enemies off the face of the Earth (and the Immateria) with her caduceus - even where she does that, it is thought through.
The comic book has continued, so the rest will be in volume 2, but it still a bit inconsiderate.

Comic Books and the Mythic Pattern
Some people (myself included) contend that on some level comic books are about the creation of new myths for the modern age.
So in a broad sense, many proto-typical comic book elements (or to be precise, comic book storylines) seem to follow the monomyth pattern.

The period roughly from 1933 to 1955 is regarded by comics historians as the "Golden Age" because it was the "first wave" of new talent, an era when classic comic-book characters such as Superman, Batman, and Captain America were created, as was the graphic language of contemporary comics.
After having served as midwife to the first comic book, the first superhero, the first superhero group, and the first major female crime-fighter, Gaines decided it was time to move the genre in a new direction--ethical education.
Reeling from this debacle, Gaines called an emergency meeting of his fellow comic-book publishers, who agreed with him that immediate action was necessary--but instead of fighting back, they decided to form a self-censoring comics authority.

When the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund was established in 1986, it was to support the defense of retailers who found themselves in trouble for daring to sell a handful of comics aimed at older readers.
Over the years the idea that comics can speak to adults on their terms has become less radical to the general public, but too often in the eyes of the law, they're still just for kids.
On the surface these laws are supposed to shield minors from explicit materials, but they are so ambiguously phrased that they actually threaten a great deal of the constitutionally protected materials that support the individuals who earn their living from comics.
