		The Carnegie Foundation is an organisation set up by, and named after, Andrew Carnegie, the Scottish-American idealist and industrial magnate.
		It was Carnegie's generous gift of $1.5 million that made it possible to carry out plans for the construction of the Peace Palace in 1903, the year in which it was founded.
		The Foundation is the legal owner of the Peace Palace as the Permanent Court of Arbitration, which is based there along with its library, could not own the building under Dutch law.
