Holmes is described as a tall, lean gentleman with sharp, piercing silver grey eyes and an aquiline nose.
Readers of the Sherlock Holmes stories have often been surprised to discover that their author, Conan Doyle, was a fervent believer in paranormal phenomena, and that the logical, sceptical character of Holmes was in opposition to his own in many ways.
Sherlock Holmes' abilities as both a good fighter and as an excellent logician have been a boon to other authors who have lifted his name, or details of his exploits, for their plots.

'''''The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes''''' is the final collection of Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle.
They were written at a time when Doyle was heavily immersed in his newfound passion for spiritualism and seances, and considerably less than interested in continuing to produce Sherlock Holmes stories, which he regarded by now as a distracting nuisance.
A couple of the stories are comparable with Doyle's earlier work but in general this collection is very much a lesser entry in the Sherlock Holmes canon.

The author (whose first book this is?) has the classic credentials: studied with Kurt Vonnegut in college in Iowa, schoolteacher, book salesman, factory worker, bus driver, bartender, and editor for a Boston publishing firm.
The book's dedication is to Frederic Dannay (part of Ellery Queen), and reads: "...who first appreciated the full extent to which Schlock Homes could contribute to the confusion of logical reasoning." And that it does indeed.
