I just saw Cat Empire on March 24 at the Blues and Roots fest in Byron Bay, Oz (i was just visiting from the states) and they completly rocked.

The band surge through influences that don't particularly vary that much (Latin, Jazz, Funk and even in the case of 'The Chariot' a bit of ska) but do come together in a way that seems to be having a commercial success rate, at least amongst Melbourne's university students.
If this music does have one downfall however, it is that it is not meant to be recorded, it is meant to be performed live and unfortunately a recording is never going to match what the Empire boys are capable of.
Because while there are a million bands out there just like the Empire, only one is making a name for themselves and gradually stepping towards household name level and if you are into this kind of music, don't be ashamed to seek out a whole scene!
