Topic: The Cestus Deception

In the News (Fri 17 Feb 12)

  TheForce.Net - Books - Reviews - The Cestus Deception
Deception in itself is an intriguing subject, considering that the entire galaxy is engulfed in a state of chaos, full scale war doesn't touch Ord Cestus.
Deceptions are the guns of war used on Ord Cestus...
However, the highlight of Cestus is not its many deceptions, but rather its human element, most notably that represented by Nate, the mission’s lone ARC trooper.

Cestus has caught the attention of both the Confederacy and the Republic by virtue of a dastardly device: a virtually unbeatable bio-droid designated JK-13 and nicknamed ‘Jedi Killer’.
Lying at the heart of this droid is a force-sensitive yet non-sentient creature called a dashta eel, which allows the droid to anticipate its opponents’ moves, thereby increasing its lethality.
Hence, a ‘deception’: the Republic is trying to engender trust and cooperation on the one hand while using guerilla tactics on the other.

Steven Barnes: The Cestus Deception (Star Wars: Clone Wars Novel) - Bøger   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
The Cestus Deceptions was by far the worst Star Wars novel that I have read.
Obi-wan's job was to go to Ord Cestus, an ex-prison world now controlled by a government known as the Five Families and the Hive Council, who is building something called a JK Droid, (short for Jedi-Killer) and thought to be selling them to the CIS.
The whole plot with Obi-wan and his political dealings with Ord Cestus' society was rather dull and uninteresting, even during the chapters that were supposed to be.

 The Cestus Deception
Obi-Wan, along with Kit Fisto-another Jedi Master on the cover of the book-is about to be sent to the world of Ord Cestus to attempt to engage in diplomacy with the manufacturers of the JK droids to prevent the sale of such droids to the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
This is the lead in to the story of The Cestus Deception, a novel set six months after the events of Shatterpoint.
I found The Cestus Deception to be a less intense book than Shatterpoint, but closer to what I'd consider a traditional Star Wars novel, at least for this era.

Cestus takes place between Episodes II and the upcoming III, and features Obi-Wan Kenobi, Kit Fisto, and an ARC trooper and several clone commandos.
The political situation on Cestus is a ball of knots, an apparently unsolvable dilemma and time bomb wrapped up in one.

The Cestus Deception - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hugo nominee Barnes (Zulu Heart) picks Kenobi up in middle age during the Clone Wars between the good-guy Republic and the dastardly Confederacy, sending Kenobi's impetuous Jedi Padawan (apprentice) Anakin Skywalker offstage and Kenobi as ambassador to the remote planet Ord Cestus, now producing new bio-droids able to challenge the Jedi in combat.
The droids, Jedi Killers or JK droids, are Force sensitive and are able to anticipate their opponents' moves.
Accompanied by another Jedi Knight, tentacle-haired Nautolan Kit Fisto, five superbly bred and trained military Advance Recon Commandos (ARCs), and a wondrously conceived giant slug who proves an inspired barrister, Kenobi plunges into Cestan intrigues, trying to avoid Cestus's destruction and sensing a sinister concealed threat in the nick of time.

Cestus Cybernetics, a local manufacturing firm, has started producing droids unofficially called "Jedi Killers" or JK droids.
One was brought back to Coruscant to be tested and it proved to be a worthy and almost unbeatable opponent, easily defeating an ARC trooper and giving Fisto a run for his money, although he did defeat it.
Kenobi and Fisto were sent to Ord Cestus to try and stop the manufacturing of these droids.
