To right this wrong, I made a trip to the Champion City Archives, to review the wonderful collection of comics and graphic novels, and decided to review some of these great works of the comic book universe so that we can gain a greater appreciation of the pioneers and trailblazers in the field.
Those of us who read comic books during the 60s or have read comic books from the 60s know that a majority of the titles featured exciting tales of adventure with incredible artwork but at the same time were lacking a real world perspective.
The comic book universe of the 60s seemed to overlook the issues of the times such as the controversial war in Vietnam and racial equality.

It had mostly written stories with a "comic" at (maybe at either end) but definitely in the middle I think, but my memory is fading.
Attached is an image of my last Champion Comic which clearly states that LION should be purchased.
Why was it that detectives in the comics of the 30s 40s and 50 all had fancy names, Sexton Blake, Colwyn Dane and ferrars Locke of the Magnet to name but three.

Edward Champion links to an interesting site, Footnote Comics, "whereby comics are annotated with historical and legal background" by lawyer Stephen Lee.
There is some back and forth about the worth of comics, and since I dressed up as Catwoman for Halloween when I was in Grade 2, I feel I am as qualified as anyone to comment.
I would wager that there would be at least as much to interest the thoughtful reader in any ten randomly chosen graphic novels taken from the shelves of the local mega-bookstore, as in ten novels pulled at hazard off the bestseller shelves.

At the Store Challange final, those who had the 1st place in their Store Challenge series Tournaments (Store Champions) will compete as representatives of the store they are Chapion of; those that gain points for an invite without winning a Challenge will not have a store affiliation.
Prizes: The Store Champions then have a chance to earn prizes for their store depending on how high they finish in the Final.
Comics will be a day late next week, and arrive on the Friday.

To me comics is a storytelling medium and while I greatly respect many of the instructors I think there is vast gulf between what they do and what someone like James Sturm or Joe Sacco does.
At the time, when comics were exploding, we had a chain of comic book stores and we were asked to come to the school and give a speech of the business of selling product...which in our case was comics.

 Don Markstein's Toonopedia: Harvey Comics
In the early 1940s, Harvey Comics (founded by brothers Leon, Robert and Alfred Harvey) was a very small, but otherwise very typical comic book publisher.
Speed was a typical comic of the time, an anthology title headed up by superheroes — in this case, Shock Gibson, Captain Freedom (a patriotic type like Captain America or The Shield), and others equally memorable.
By the 1980s, comic book sales in general were down, especially for publishers that didn't have well established superheroes on the market.

 Comics From the Golden Age
Starting with that box of old "Dell" Disney comics at Grandma's house when I was a kid in the 1960's, I've been a reader and collector of comic books for pretty much my entire life.
At this stage of my life I'm not particularly interested in reading these comics, rather I'm more interested in appreciating the lurid artistic appeal of the covers and the overall nostalgic aura of the books (and, as I tell my wife, maintaining them as a non-401K investment).
I will be presenting these comics here, as I acquire them, as a reference to others who might be similarly interested in a wide variety of wonderful old comics.

 The Human Meteor (Battle-Axis)
(Champion Comics#10) - The Human Meteor discovered the activities of Grundo the Great, a criminal who was drawing planes to his mountain fortress via "magno-rays." The Meteor defeated Grundo before he was able to carry out his plans to wreak havoc with his "Rellik Ray#5," allegedly capable of destroying an entire city.
Roy Thomas had originally intended Battle-Axis to consist of some of the minor wartime heroes of Timely Comics (predecessor of Marvel), but Mark Gruenwald nixed that idea, and super-heroes from now-defunct wartime publishers were used instead; the Human Meteor's position in Battle-Axis was probably originally intended for the Blazing Skull.

 The Buffy Library - Fiction - Comics
She easily defeats Lamia's champion, but Lilith has in store for her a surprise challenge, a much older demon from the pit of the Hellmouth.
Reprints stories from the monthly comic "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", issues 1 ("Wu-tang Fang": Buffy vs. San Sui, a Chinese vampire traveling in search of worthy opponents), 2 and 3 ("Halloween" and "Cold Turkey": from Halloween to Thanksgiving, Buffy vs. a coven of vampires threatening her friends).
The storyline is left hanging, however, and you need to go back to the monthly comic in order to know how it ends.

 Australian Comics Publishers
Publisher credits in Aussie comics are usually an arbitrary matter, although there are definitely exceptions.
I figure this is most useful to people who want to hunt down comics done in a similar style -- finding one title by Steve Carter or Eddie Campbell will point you to the others, for example.
When a comic does not list a publisher, I have used the name of the creator (ordered by first name), or the name of the title for anthologies.

First Appearance: as Duke Champion Comics #6 (Harvey, April 1940); as the Human Meteor Champion Comics #9 (Harvey, July 1940)
Champion Comics would fold with #25, dated April 1943, ending Duke's career, for a time at least.
With the character presumably having moved into the public domain, the Human Meteor turned up again in the 1990's Invaders mini-series as a member of the Battle Axis.
