A few episodes are especially notable due to contributions from well-known science fiction authors.
In the first episode, the crew discovers the presence of a nearby stable (Hole made by a burrowing worm) wormhole which provides immediate travel to and from the distant (additional info and facts about Gamma Quadrant) Gamma Quadrant.
The first Star Trek novels were novelizations of episodes by (additional info and facts about James Blish) James Blish, and published by Bantam Books from 1967 to 1975.

TNG producers apparently were making a tip of the hat to the TOS episode "Balance of Terror," naming this ship for the first ever named Romulan character to be featured.
The events of the comic seem to fit with the milieu of the Mirror Universe that was presented in later DS9 episodes, but there are several varaint timelines in the mirror universe, so this may not be the history of those later stories.
It was unclear in the episode whether the Dierdre was a real spacecraft, or was a fictional one completely fabricated by the Klingons.

In the latter episode we see that the double beam of the aft phaser array fires from either side of the dome above the hangar deck of the Defiant, and aft torpedoes are available too.
Gene Roddenberry proposed that the latter was first designated as USS Yorktown and later recommissioned as Enterprise 1701-A. It is a reasonable assumption that most of the remaining ships were refurbished likewise in the 2270s.
Apart from the three-nacelle version in TNG "All Good Things", there is another Galaxy variant with additional engine top pieces, probably phaser strips, the Venture from DS9: "Way of the Warrior".

The paper in "Elementary, Dear Data" [TNG] was likely simulated until the computer realized that it was going to be carried off the Holodeck, at which point it would have been seamlessly replaced with a replicated copy.
In three episodes, the Enterprise has been controlled from the Holodeck - by Barclay in "The Nth Degree" [TNG], with a neural interface; in "Elementary, Dear Data" [TNG], where Moriarty somehow cracked the security codes via the Holodeck Arch; and in "Ship In A Bottle" [TNG], where Picard inadvertantly gave Moriarty the security codes.
In "Evolution" [TNG] the nanites were attacked in the computer cores.

As a Canadian, most of the television I was forced to watch as a child was from England.
I was 8 years old in 1966 and saw the very first episode in glorious fl and white.
Although I was really excited to see the franchise come out with some new material (the first since TAS in 1974), I found it an overly long rehash of The Changeling from the second TOS season.
