The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was formed in 1963 when three separate colleges merged to form Hong Kong's second tertiary university.
CUHK is the only government-funded university in Hong Kong in which Chinese is the principal language of instruction.
The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is located in Shatin, in the New Territories, on a 331-acre campus which overlooks Tolo Harbor.

The Chinese Department began in a small way, but with the help of the Government and private personages in Hong Kong, its curriculum was gradually expanded and its teaching staff strengthened.
In 2006, the Chinese Department was renamed the School of Chinese consequent on the restructuring of the Faculty of Arts.
The primary role of the first two units of the School of Chinese is to promote the understanding of Chinese language, literature and history; to further the ability of students in the use of the Chinese language; and to study the development of Chinese civilization and its place in the modern world.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) was established in October 1963 as Hong Kong’s second university.
The University is the only one in Hong Kong which has a college system and operates on a full credit unit system.

Graduates from the CUHK Medical School are awarded by MBChB, the equivalent degree offered by HKU is M.B.B.S. Hong Kong's Prince of Wales Hospital and Shatin Hospitals are affiliated with CUHK Medical School, with Prince of Wales Hospital being the program's teaching facility and its base of reseaching operations.
All CUHK's LL.B students have undergraduate classes at CUHK's main campus; they can live in the resident halls on campus, thus remaining close to the lecture halls, and have access to all of the campus' facilities, including the law library, located at the 4th floor of the University Library.
The University's School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCS) was established in 1965 under the former name of the Department of Extramural Studies.
