This year we are pleased to bring to you Oscar Straus1908 operetta, “The Chocolate Soldier.” Oscar Straus was born in Vienna in 1870.
Shaw must have weakened in the case of “The Chocolate Soldier” because he thought that no one would pay attention to a German-language adaptation of his work in operetta form.
(Straus continued to sharpen “The Chocolate Soldier” throughout his lifetime, even adding a ballet for a revival by the San Francisco Light Opera.) Musically, I have gone back to the original score and have reinstated a few songs that, for one reason or another, were dropped over the period of the last 100 years.

I served for 17 years in the Australian army and the comment is well known, though now it is abbreviated to "Choco", ie pretend soldier - melts under pressure ("weekend warrior" equivalent).
Chocolate comes from the likes of Cadbury's and Rowntrees, Quaker firms which produced things that have no possible military connections.

Looking at a bottle of Chocolate solider i saw that it was bottled in Carlsdt, NJ when Yoo-hoo is also bottle and it says it's made by the Chocolate Group which i assume is Cadbury Schweppes.
Since Yoo-hoo owns Chocolate Soldier they sell it to Dollar General to sell as a off brand because Yoo-hoo as a name would be to expensive for a dollar store.
So remember Chocolate Solider is not as bad as once thought and if you're lost without a 'hoo and come upon a Dollar General look inside for a 6 pack of Chocolate soldier.
