deseretnews.com Starving cold, fever isn't wise
The adage to "Feed a cold and starve a fever" may be based on the idea of "stoking the inner fires" and giving yourself extra fuel to keep going when you've got a cold and chills.
On the flip side, "Starve a cold, feed a fever" may come from the idea that when you're congested with a cold, you can't smell or taste food much anyway, so your appetite is naturally lower.
In the same vein, people might figure that if you're overheated with fever, you should take in less food, with the idea of bringing the fever down.

In the middle drawing, however, the vein has enlarged, and the valve cusps are having trouble holding back the column of blood against the pull of gravity.

Where Rock N Roll found him proving (disproving?) that he could be a young hip indie rocker like The Strokes, Cold Roses showcases what he does best -- country rock in the vein of Gram Parsons and Neil Young, mixed with healthy doses of Roy Orbison and Fleetwood Mac.
But unlike the follow-up efforts, Cold Roses is actually the product of a band.

Recently an improved survival after pancreatectomy with associated resection of the superior mesenteric vein or the portal vein was demonstrated, while the involvement of the superior mesenteric artery still remains an absolute contraindication for surgery.

 El-P: Pitchfork Interview
Dark, cinematic, and complex, the production of The Cold Vein and Fantastic Damage not only marked an evolution in El-P's style, but also offered a possible solution to the stagnancy that had held the hip-hop community hostage.
With the release of Cannibal Ox's classic The Cold Vein last year, and this year's solo outing Fantastic Damage, El has also established himself as one of hip-hop's premier producers.
Coming straight from the dark recesses of NYC, the album's sonic grittiness, lyrical experimentalism, and paranoid, anti-industry rhetoric helped cement the stature of start-up label Rawkus Records and propelled Co-Flow to the front of the movement.

Vast Aire - Look Mom … No Hands - Stylus Magazine
Vast is a large man with a slow, precise manner of speaking which translates superbly onto wax when he’s rapping; in comparison to his partner Vordul, he was the more distinctive MC on the group’s debut album, The Cold Vein.
The scope of this album is considerably less expansive than The Cold Vein—instead of an elegiac reflection on life in poverty on the streets of NYC, it is very much a rapper’s album that focuses largely on Vast Aire the MC rather than Vast Aire the streets disciple.
This isn’t always a drawback; Vast Aire is a clever and charismatic rapper, whose steady rhythm and even, plodding flow belies the intelligence of his witty lyricisms.

 Tornado thoughts
In this vein, it appears that a critical issue about the tornadic potential of a storm with a mid-level mesocyclone may be whether or not that mesocyclone is "undercut" by cold air, either from storm-induced outflow or from tapping the cold air north of a frontal boundary.
Assuming that a supercell is a storm with a mesocyclone, the generally accepted mechanism for mesocyclogenesis at mid-levels in supercells is the tilting of streamwise environmental vorticity into the vertical by the updraft of the convective storm.
In the conceptual model, long-lived, low-level mesocyclones are the result of a vertical alignment of the mid-level and low-level mesocyclones, leading to a deep vortex from the surface to well up into the convective storm.

It is actually the keyboards that are the focus here, as their varied (from sweeping to bleeping, choral to stabbing) sound layers spread over and colour the rather monotonous and monochromatic distortion guitar riffs, their frosty digital sheen contributing to the cold, almost gothic feel of the music.
This is a quintessential work of mellow, German progressive rock from the seventies, in the vein of bands such as Novalis, SFF, etc. The music is primarily instrumental, with three of the ten tracks featuring vocals in English.
A lot of the prog rock cliches are borrowed from Genesis and Novalis and the like, but have been used very creatively, sort of like the essence of prog rock.

EH.Net Encyclopedia: US Coal Industry in the Nineteenth Century
A skilled miner and a handful of laborers could easily raise several tons of coal a day through the use of a "drift" or "slope" mine that intersected a vein of coal along a hillside.
The density of anthracite coal resisted attempts to ignite it through the cold blast and therefore appeared to be an inappropriate fuel for most American iron furnaces.
Early coal miners also worked close to the surface, often in horizontal drift mines, which meant that work was not as dangerous in the era before deep shaft mining.

Canada's aviation heritage is like a vein whose branches nourish virtually every facet of the diverse country's social, business and even political life.
From mid-November (up to a month earlier in the Far North) to early April, the combination of snow, wind, frightful cold and diminished sunlight make Canada a place best suited to earthly pursuits like skiing, snowmobiling and watching hockey on television.
To a large degree, aviation built Canada, untapping its vast resource wealth and often providing the only communications link between far-flung communities whose lifeline was a strip of gravel carved out of the forest and the hardy breed of part pilot, part mechanic and part entrepreneur who flew into them.
