The Donovan Scrapbook - The Goldmine Article
Donovan himself put out his first new album in eight years in 1991, a recording of vintage live performances called Donovan Rising in the U.K. and The Classics Live in the U.S. In 1992, he was given the boxed set treatment, with Sony Music's Legacy division issuing the two-CD/cassette retrospective Troubadour: The Definite Collection/1964-1976.
Donovan's five-year contract of 1966 was due to expire at the end of 1970, though, by the label's reckoning, he had failed to deliver all the albums called for by the contract.
Donovan left Hickory Records acrimoniously; the label retained the rights to his 1965 material and, as will be shown, it periodically release competing reissues when Donovan releases new albums.

I have a few of the albums listed so Greg and I do share some of the same tastes and I'm sure that there will be many more in my collection before the year is out.
This author's interpretation of the term "folk-rock" focuses on (while not exclusively attributing the phenomenon to) the rise and subsequent development of what might be loosely termed protest music in the States, from acoustic coffee-house and agit-prop obscurity to trend-setting paisley modishness and psychedelic revolution.
As with any choice of 'essential' albums it is very subjective although I found it an illuminating insight to blues albums.

 Donovan Biography - Donovan Forever
The first record, subtitled "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", was written for the people of his generation that would one day be parents; the second, subtitled "For Little Ones", was a collection of songs Donovan had written especially for the coming children.
Although folk elements were still prominent, the album showed the increasing influence of jazz, American west coast psychedelia and folk-rock, especially The Byrds, whose records Donovan had been listening to constantly through 1965.
Like The Beatles, Donovan's developed a strong interest in eastern mysticism, and in late 1967 he travelled to India, where he spent several months at the ashram of the Maharishi in Rishikesh.

On the other hand, the album is likely to please Donovanís longtime fans, particularly those who are willing to venture beyond his hits and follow him into more erudite and esoteric territory that extends his heady brew of jazz, folk, pop, and blues by infusing it with a breezy blast of fresh perspective.

Singers & Songwriters: 1964-1969 - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
With only 24 selections spread across two discs (they could have fit on one), the album is a sampler rather than a comprehensive collection, and the focus on hits prevents the compilers from using a lot of higher-quality, but lower-profile, material.
The tracks by the Band, the Beach Boys, the Beau Brummels, the Byrds, the Lovin' Spoonful, and the Mamas & the Papas were written or co-written by members of these groups, while solo singers Donovan, Bobbie Gentry, and Joe South all wrote their own hits.
Even so, the influence of folk and country music on the pop styles of the second half of the '60s is well represented, and fans who collected these tracks originally on long since worn-out 45s will appreciate the fidelity and get a nostalgic kick out of hearing their favorites again.

Amazon.co.uk: Music: Hurdy Gurdy Man [IMPORT]
Telling this to a Donovan fan would be preaching to the choir and I am not arguing that "The Hurdy Gurdy Man" constitutes the one regular album you would want to have or first pick up when you moved beyond the hits collection.
Musically these profound changes manifested themselves in the ambitious double-album "A Gift from a Flower to a Garden" and then this 1968 album, "The Hurdy Gurdy Man." The scope of the album is covered in the two hits.
That was just in terms of their lyrics, because once you got to the music Dylan was defined by stark guitar playing sometimes augmented by a harmonica in the style of Woody Guthrie while Donovan was helping to define the psychedelic sound.

While she waited, they quickly wrote a song for her, "I Should Be So Lucky." Her first album, Kylie, a collection of dance songs, reached number one on the British albums chart and became the year's highest-selling album.
Minogue played the character of Charlene Mitchell; a storyline that created a romance and eventual marriage between her character and that played by her real-life boyfriend Jason Donovan culminated in a wedding episode in 1987 that attracted a record audience (see Scott and Charlene).
She agreed to record three new songs to be included on the Greatest Hits album, which was released to coincide with her departure from them in 1992.

 Judith (Judy Collins)
Judy Collins has done so much for the world, and the world of music, so it is impossible to single out just one album ---but make sure you have this one (in a new CD if possible) in your collection.
Judy's people have a real knack for giving her cover tunes special, mind-catching arrangements, like the turn that was given "First Boy I Loved", a tune by the Incredible String Band on "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" or the treatment of Donovan's "Sunny Goodge Street" on "In My Life".
Witness Judy's first hint of genius on "Wildflowers", the album that contained "Both Sides Now", her signature song for a while, until "Judith" came out with "Send In The Clowns" on it.

 Donovan Biography - Donovan Forever
The first record, subtitled "Wear Your Love Like Heaven", was written for the people of his generation that would one day be parents; the second, subtitled "For Little Ones", was a collection of songs Donovan had written especially for the coming children.
Stripping the sound back a rock trio format, he dubbed the sound "Celtic rock"; the album was moderately successful but it marked the start of a gradual decline in his popularity and commercial fortunes, and his concert appearances became increasingly rare from this time forward.
The heavier sound of 'Hurdy Gurdy Man' was a deliberate attempt by Most and Donovan to try and reach a wider audience in the United States, where the new hard rock sounds of groups like Cream and The Jimi Hendrix Experience were having a major impact.

On his breaks from Velvet Revolver, Sorum plays with his side band, Camp Freddy, a loose collection of musicians also featuring former Jane's Addiction members Dave Navarro and Chris Chaney, Sorum's former Cult band mate Billy Morrison and singer Donovan Leitch, plus a huge assortment of high-profile guest stars.
Camp Freddy usually play impromptu jam sessions consisting largely of cover tunes, but they're in the process of putting together an album for which Sorum has already recorded the drum tracks.
Still, Sorum's penchant for groupies (he's the only member of the band who's not married) has put him at odds with newfound family man Weiland, according to a recent Entertainment Weekly article.

Beres Hammond returned briefly to Jamaica to record Putting Up Resistance, which was significantly harder than his typical ballads, under Tapa Zukie, which spawned the hits "Putting Up Resistance" and "Strange." He signed with Penthouse Records in 1990 and returned to Jamaica permanently to record the dancehall smash "Tempted to Touch" with producer Donovan Germain.
Now garnering interest from major studios such as Electra Records, Beres recorded five more albums in the 1990s as well as several compilations, establishing himself as one of the top lovers rock artists.
Born Hugh Beresford Hammond along Annotto Bay in Saint Mary parish, he grew up listening to his father's collection of American soul (music) and jazz music, including Sam Cooke and Otis Redding.

The History of Rock Music. Frogs: biography, discography, reviews, links
Jimmy and Dennis Flemion started making music in 1978, but the first document was a self-released album, The Frogs (Frogs, 1988), an odd collection of pop tunes that homaged Donovan, Marc Bolan and especially Prince (C-R-Y, Funhouse, Layin' Down My Love 4 You).
Poking fun at racial, sexual and religious dogmas, they have created a phenomenon of juvenile, caustic and lewd, irreverence similar to what Frank Zappa did in the 1960s.
For a record that was hardly played on the radio and that was almost impossible to find, It's Only Right And Natural (Homestead, 1989) established a world record, as at least Rosy Jack World and I Don't Care If You Disrespect Me became cult hits.
