The Constant Gardener is not an action/adventure film, but a very serious, grim, story and is, unfortunately, based heavily on fact.
Not every film score needs a main theme, but I think The Constant Gardener could have benefited from a unifying musical idea, even if it were just a vocal performance that appeared in various places throughout the film, which was done in Tears of the Sun.

 DVD Review: The Constant Gardener
The same can be said for such films as the Constant Gardener (the title which, I must confess, made me think the film was about an agricultural expert in high-fiber vegetation) that vilify business in general and the pharmaceutical industry in particular -- a significant change in villains from LeCarre's original novel btw.
Fernando Meirelles's The Constant Gardener (adapted from the novel by John le Carré) debuts on DVD today, and if you didn't catch this beauty of a geopolitical thriller during its brief theatrical run, don't hesitate to pick it up.

The Constant Gardener video : ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
A love story hidden inside a piece of agitprop buried inside a global murder mystery, the narrative of The Constant Gardener is, at its core, a buttoned-up John le Carré diplomatic thriller that's seemingly ripped from the pages of The Economist.
In the hands of Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles (City of God), however, the film of le Carré's novel is supercharged with a passionate Third World perspective, lush colors, and a cinema vérité feel that turns a wonky subject (the corruption of pharmaceutical companies) into a sexy, vibrant film.

For instance, there is nothing in the plot of “The Constant Gardener” to verify that Tessa is a mole, that she could have laid down her life in order to infiltrate Justin’s and, in so doing, burrow close to the heart of capitalist darkness.

SPLICEDwire "The Constant Gardener" movie review (2005) "The Constant Gardener" review, Fernando Meirelles, Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz, Danny Huston
While the film's underlying but overt humanitarian message is likely to rankle wealthy cheerleaders for corporate autonomy, "The Constant Gardener" (the title comes from Quayle's metaphorical backyard hobby) has a handful of real problems as well, not the least of which is potential confusion stemming from the unfolding intrigue.
But "The Constant Gardener" has the power to overcome such faults and tell a riveting story while making unequivocal statements about drug testing and pricing, Western aid to impoverished countries, and the upheaval and anarchy that result when the motives for that aid are not pure.
A preachy but gripping socio-political thriller, "The Constant Gardener" captures the parched beauty of African desert nations, personifies the horrors of their poverty in dusty, sunburned detail, and pulls no punches in its view of greedy drug companies that feign altruism but view encroaching epidemics as lucrative boons for their stockholders.

With the huge weight of expectations of "The Constant Gardener" it will no doubt prove more bumpy with its maturity, for people wanting the sheer chaos of "City of God." As time goes on and audiences experience the movie multiple times, I think the appreciation for this movie will grow.

Collaborating with music supervisor and songwriter, George Acogny, Debney's score depicts the cultural landscape of Africa through his music in a realistic way with a similar approach to that taken by John Powell for Endurance and Alberto Iglesias for The Constant Gardener.
His score for Zathura harkens back to his "seaQuest" and Cutthroat Island style, and with Duma, a film about a boy befriending an orphaned cheetah in Africa in the vein of Two Brothers, he returns to the ethnically charged feel he developed for Passion of the Christ.
Like Passion of the Christ, gone are his recognizable complex orchestrations and sweeping themes.
