  EVAPORATIVE COOLER
Criteria on home size, cooler size, and general operability of the cooler had to be met before the home was approved for the study.
Coolers with no system to bleed off water used an average of 3.5 gallons per hour of run time, while coolers that reduced the salt buildup by constantly dumping and replacing part of the water while the pump ran used an average of 10.5 gallons per hour of run time.
Coolers with a bleed off system to dump salt buildup had water in the pan ranging from 375 to 4,043.

Water Cooler 3 was doing a good job of keeping the processor cool, though I needed a drip pan to catch the condensation coming off of it.
It would be important that the tension holding the cooler to the socket be able to be regulated.
Otherwise the fact that one side of the cooler was farther from the fulcrum than the other would tend to tilt the cooler toward the longer side if equal pressure was applied.

 Driverheaven: ASUS Star Ice Cooler
If you are upgrading your stock cooler you will have to remove the motherboard as this is a "bolt on" cooler, meaning it will need support from the rear of the motherboard.
I tested the cooler with an AMD system and an intel 775 slot design and I have to say the manual they supply is quite confusing and poorly printed, certain pages in the sample I received had pages almost unreadable due to faint printing.
The only coolers ive used to match or better the Star Ice would be the thermalright SLK series but as they have yet to make a high end cooler for Slot 775 this is right now unmatched especially when you look at the under load figures.

Cooler Master sent us their latest North Bridge (NB) cooler which we gladly accepted for two reasons; free schwag is always good (may as well be frank about it :P), and the Cooler Master Blue Ice is the first North Bridge cooler we've gotten that features heatpipe technology.
Cooler Master includes some thermal paste (we used out own), as well as parts for almost any kind of NB chip you can think of.
Cooler Master has designed a great NB cooler for those of you looking to replace your existing one.

CPU coolers compared, page 9 - Pentium 4 coolers
Most P4 coolers also have a 70mm fan on them, because that's how wide their heat sink is; that gives them better than four-thirds of the fan area, all other things being equal, and so even low profile fans can work pretty well as they blow on that great big heat sink.
This cooler attaches in the standard Socket 478 way; there's a frame around the CPU socket onto which you somewhat awkwardly clip the top frame of the cooler, with the heat sink sandwiched in between.
Performance like this from a stock cooler, plus the fact that P4s just slow themselves down if they're running too hot (which is very considerate of them; check this out to see the alternatives...), strongly suggests that going bananas about your P4 cooling isn't likely to get you much of a return.

CPU cooler installation - getting it right!
Coolers attach to SECC2 CPUs by means of pins through holes in the circuit board, retained by a clip on the other side.
Various CPU coolers that work perfectly with Socket 370 are a recipe for disaster on Socket A. Here, ladies and gentlemen, is Public Enemy Number One as far as the cruel and unusual mangulation of Durons and Socket A Athlons goes.
Cooler clips usually have one end with no way to push it down, and another end with some sort of thumb-pad or plier-grip-tab or something.

 Swamp Coolers
Evaporative or "swamp" coolers use fans to move hot, dry air through wetted pads and into homes.
To prevent this, concentrated salts are removed from swamp coolers via some sort of "bleed-off" mechanism.
In some cases, a continual stream of water is removed; in other cases, a manual valve is opened occasionally to drain water out of the cooler.

 V I P E R L A I R .com - ASUS Star Ice Cooler, Page 1/2
It is without a doubt the largest cooler I have ever seen, it is made by a company known better for their excellent reputation as motherboard manufacturers and it supports all of the major new CPU socket formats as well as the previous generation P4's and K7's.
It looks like a 'jet' style cooler with its 'mutant Cooler Master Jet' looks, but further inspection also shows that the copper base has a triple heat pipe array and that a single standard fan (not a crossflow fan) are used.
The bottom plate of the cooler is flat to the touch and to the eye, but there are a few machining marks to be seen, and it might benefit from a bit of lapping.

 Review: Scythe Kamakaze CPU cooler
I've tested several very loud coolers that score this well, or a little better, but getting this kind of performance out of a cooler that anyone could live with is an impressive achievement.
At this power level, the cooler only managed 0.66°C/W. This still isn't a bad result at all; it's not good enough for serious overclocking, but it'd be fine for a current mid-range Athlon at stock speed, and that's more than enough CPU for a lounge room or office box.
It's not a CPU cooler for the beginner, but people who can use their head and a screwdriver at the same time should have no trouble with it, and reap the rewards.

The cooler comes with a speed controller in the form of a variable resistor that is mounted on a PCI backing plate, this can be quite easily screwed an available PCI slot cover, so the speed can be adjusted from the back of the pc easily.
The base of the cooler is copper and the pins are aluminium, the copper draws the head off the processor quickly and the aluminium provides a large surface area in the form of the 490 pins for the heat to dissipate in the air.
Basically you place the cooler the correct way onto the processor and align the metal brackets over the 3 plastic lugs on each side of the motherboard, and tighten the screws on either side of the cooler equally, this sounds easy in theory but turned out to be quite troublesome.

It also has the benefit of being a four in one cooler that can effectively fit almost any platform out right now; AMD XP, AMD Athlon 64, Intel P4 and Intel Socket T. Occasionally the strengths of a product get lost when it is made to be a one size fits all.
