The Crepes of Wrath - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
“The Crêpes of Wrath” is an episode of The Simpsons from the first season.
Bart is sent to France on a student exchange trip, where his hosts treat him as a slave; meanwhile, an Albanian student taking his place shows great interest in Homer's work at the nuclear power plant.
The episode's title is a play on John Steinbeck's novel "The Grapes of Wrath" (the movie that is based off the novel, is, like The Simpsons, a Fox property).

IGN: The Simpsons: 17 Seasons, 17 Episodes
By the time "The Crepes of Wrath" aired, the eleventh episode in the series, The Simpsons was falling into its groove, showing many signs of the classic series it was to become.
The episode features a strong central storyline, with Bart being shipped off to France as an exchange student and being forced to work for two unscrupulous winemakers that mix antifreeze in their wine.
"Crepes of Wrath" is one of the few Simpsons episodes where Bart seems to genuinely learn something -- he speaks perfect French by the end of the episode (of course, he's never spoken in French since, but hey, you don't use it, you lose it).

After an incident with a cherry bomb sends Bart (voice of Nancy Cartwright) to the office of Principal Skinner (voice of Harry Shearer) one time too many, Skinner suggests the answer to Bart's discipline problems might be not to kick him out of school, but to ship him out of the country.
However, everyone involved is in for a few surprises; Bart discovers that his French sponsors are actually the mean-spirited proprietors of a winery who use him for slave labor when not fortifying their product with anti-freeze, while Adil is actually a spy who uses Homer's naïveté to obtain classified information about American nuclear power plants.
"The Crepes of Wrath" was first aired on April 15, 1990.
