Dalek prop history is a very tricky business.
Take the case of the Barnardo's Daleks (see 'The Daleks' and 'The Dalek Invasion of Earth').
We have chosen the main Dalek appearances for our history, but where props can be linked to the TV show in some way we have included them.

The Daleks’ plan is also interesting and pretty impressive if they could have pulled it off: to remove the magnetic core of the Earth and turn it into something that they could pilot around the universe.
Dalek repetition is often mocked by fans (and non-fans, for that matter), but I often feel that it captures their alien quality, their ‘character,’ as well as anything else about them.
Daleks are hideously functional creatures — the travel machines translate their thoughts into the simplest language necessary, and that’s why they will repeat the same command five times in identical words.

The representation of occupied Earth and its inhabitants is gritty and realistic; both the desperation and greed of the general populace and the haggard camaraderie of the small resistance force are portrayed vividly and in a convincing manner.
Dalek saucers a la Ed Wood are forgivable and we can overlook a few inevitable technical goof-ups, but all depends on the storyline here, which is fine until the end, when the Dalek's nefarious plans are fully revealed.
The Nazi allegory which is made blindingly obvious in "Genesis of the Daleks" is only tantalisingly hinted at in "Dalek Invasion of Earth", but its nevertheless present in the subtext of a story that is one of the most rewarding of William Hartnell's tenure.

The Daleks look a little strange in this story due to their enhanced fender (which prevents them from moving about on the spot as they do in so many other stories) and the dish on their backs but otherwise they are even more scary in this story than in The Mutants.
The Daleks in their original appearance (whatever we're calling it this week) are xenophobic, true, and determined to survive at any costs, but these aren't necessarily Nazi traits, because by the end of the story the Thals are exactly the same.
Dalek Invasion of Earth may be clunky and a bit primitive in parts but it marks the point at which Doctor Who became immortal, and that surely makes it one of the most significant stories in the history of the concept.

The plot being that the Tardis lands on Earth about ten years after the Daleks have -for reasons unknown- invaded Earth, exterminated most of the population and through dictatorship and electronic mind control, have forced humans to help the Daleks dig into the core of the planet.
Like 'Genesis of the Daleks' and 'The Caves of Androzani', The Dalek Invasion of Earth really does have a sense of there being danger and conflict at every turn in its depiction of Daleks and Robomen marching the streets and landmarks of London.
The scenes of the Dalek mining project are just as awesome, I also like the portrayal of the humans driven to treachery and murder by starvation- because it makes such a perfect grim counterpoint to the Doctor's speech in Genesis of the Daleks where he talks of fear of the Daleks galvanising alliances and unification.

Lavishly remade for the cinema as Daleks Invasion Earth: 2150AD (1966), the plot here is more detailed, mercifully free of comic relief, and delivers a surprisingly sensitive ending to mark Carol Ann Ford's departure from the series.
Dalek invaders are now ruling the Earth with the aid of humans converted into zombie-like Robomen, but they are opposed by a group of resistance fighters led by the wheelchair-using Dortmun.

While the Amicus film adaptation [Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. ] is by far the weaker version [aside from a larger budget meaning more impressive Robo-Men and Dalek saucers], it does nail this sequence.
The redesign isn't as bad as it's often made out to be - the extended "bumper" around the bottom is unobtrusive, and the collector dishes are a nice touch of continuity, also serving to remove one weakness from their debut story.
