		Over the past few years, local pop rockers the Damn Personals have achieved some national attention and a reputation for drunkenly chaotic performances.
		There are places where the Damn Personals could stand to pull back: "Sleeping on the Floors United" really does sound like Queen, and the two five-minute epics drag a bit.
		But with their second album, the Damn Personals have buckled down and come up with a self-assured soundtrack for everything that earned them their early reputation — drinking, flirting, and fooling around.

		It's pop, but the songs are allowed to take some left curves instead of zeroing right in on the chorus ("Sleeping on the Floor" is a three-minute song with two minutes of intro, so it builds plenty of tension before the band finally crash in).

		It's not just the heavier bass and punchier rock 'n' roll drumming that distinguishes "Mascara Queen", but the fact that The Kickovers aren't afraid to embrace their inner metalheads, laying cheesy harmonic progressions over thick riffs like it was still 1986.

		As they got up on stage, I checked out their gear and their haircuts and figured they were going to be something like a poppier version of Engine Down.
		We've been around long enough to know better, Amy - the Damn Personals are just another forgettable band-of-the-minute that will be tossed onto the trash heap faster than your fashionable red t-shirts and white belts.
		Thinking that the Damn Personals would sound like Engine Down because they dress the same (relatively) instead of vice versa, is a bit silly.
