Topic: The Darkness (comics)

The Darkness (comics) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The comic first appeared in 1996 and enjoyed an initial period of relative success during the TCP/Image Comics boom of the late 1990s.
The comic was pitched as a similar movie to the Crow, which was also produced by Dimension.
The Darkness is passed down a family line from father to son, leaving the previous user (and taking his life) as his first child is born.

The Darkness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Darkness is a British rock band often mistaken for being glam rock by the general public, while touting themselves as classic hard rock.
Ticket sales were less than spectacular, yet in the Darkness' style the band were unfazed and put on a string of excellent shows which were met with high acclaim from the critics and fans.
These incidents, elaborate stage sets and perfect performances show that whilst The Darkness may not be riding on the same wave of popularity as they were in 2003, they are still amongst the finest live acts today.

Men In Hats - Online Comic
Comics no longer become about creating what I want, and instead become trying to figure out what it is others want.
And, of course, everyone is extremely quick to point out when the comic has "become stale" or "lost its touch." Or that I've "stopped being funny" or "lost what I once had." These things shouldn't hurt, and if I was making comics out of a love of comics, they wouldn't.
I hated this comic, and I didn't even want to to look at the page long enough to tell people what was going on.

JSA: Darkness Falls [2002] Shaking Through.net: Comics: Review
In JSA, the ongoing monthly superhero comic chronicling the exploits of a modern-day Justice Society of America, DC Comics is staging its own version of Times' climactic rematch.
The Justice Society, DC's first super-team, is revered by fans of comics' storied past, and nostalgic souls are no doubt cheered by the prospect of such Golden Age stalwarts as Jay Garrick and Alan Scott flexing their muscles in today's post-modern climate.
But Darkness Falls, the second volume to collect the current JSA title, clearly demonstrates the danger in positioning characters with decades of back-story in the present day.

Darkness #36 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
Most of the time, however, and especially pretty much all of the time when it is a cross company crossover, things stay the same.
Where once we had a mob hit man with a quirk we now have someone looking for a bit of redemption and even considering taking the path of the hero.
This sort of thing keeps a character fresh but I'm not sure the Darkness was in need of it whilst it is so young.

Darkness Prelude Review - Silver Bullet Comics
This prelude issue is an oh so tantalizing tease of what Paul Jenkins is doing currently in the Darkness regular series.
The first three pages are spent in an internal monologue by Jackie, who is presented as a somewhat world-weary and hard-boiled character, but also vulnerable to the darkness residing inside.
His motivation for going after the mobster is perhaps a little simplistic, but in the larger scope of what is going on in the story this is hardly a major flaw.

Jesse Custer is not a textbook hero; neither was Tommy Monaghan, and Jackie Estecado, star of The DArkness, certainly is not.
The Darkness is a power given to Estecado, a mafia hitman, almost equivalent to a twisted version of Green Lantern's ring; it creates what he imagines, so in his hands it's like handing guns to monkeys.
There are limitations; if the Wearer of the Darkness gets anyone pregnant, he loses the power as it passes to the baby; and the darkness cannot function during daylight, as seen in the stories.

The Eclipso comics offered at the Comic Book Bin are from his regular 1990s series and the first special written by Keith Giffen and Robert Loren Fleming and at first drawn by Bart Sears.
This story continues to annoy several comic book fans even if the characters whom Eclipso killed were all minor ones not published in any regular comic books at the time.
No one treats him as a joke anymore, Whether his series needed to go to such graphic violence to establish him as a major character is debatable.
